BRM Reviews the 5/7/2019 205 Live (awesome)

Post by Big Red Machine » May 8th, '19, 12:49

MIKE & MARIA SHOW OPENING VIDEO PACKAGE/PROMO- great set up for the main event, including teasing us with the idea of a Mike Kanellis victory being a big step on the road to him earning a title shot.

BRIAN KENDRICK PROMO ON BEHALF OF AKIRA TOZAWA- more great build to the main event. Tozawa had an awesome but somehow friendly “you are so screwed” smile on his face at the end. All of that said, why is Kendrick barred from ringside but not Maria?

ARIYA DAIVARI & TONY NESE SEGMENT FROM AFTER LAST WEEK’S SHOW- good
Daivari interrupted a Tony Nese interview to tell him he could have come out at any point during his match with Drew Gulak and kicked his ass but didn’t.

ARIYA DAIVARI vs. NOAM DAR- 6.75/10
Tony Nese came out to do guest commentary for this match. Daivari went out to have a stare-down with him at some point but there was no physicality and the time he spent didn’t cost Daivari the match or anything like that because the stare-down was all you needed to get the angle over.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- great
Nese got into the ring while Daivari was celebrating and got behind him… and waited for Daivari to turn around. When Daivari did, he saw him and backed up in fear as if he was certain he was about to get hit, but Nese never went after him. Instead he repeated Daivari’s sentiments from last week back to him: “I could have taken you out at any time, but I didn’t.” Nese is not letting Daivari get into his head, and his showing he can play the same mind games right back.

ONEY LORCAN PROMO- good
He’s going to work harder to ensure that the next time he has a chance to earn a shot at the Cruiserweight Title, he doesn’t fail.

THE SINGH BROTHERS vs. DAVID KAUFFMAN & KEVIN LEE- squash
Nigel called the Singh Brothers undefeated on 205 Live for two years, forgetting that they had lost just last week. The announcers quickly corrected him.

SINGH BROTHERS PROMO- They’re doing the overconfident heels who make excuses when they lose routine. They challenged Lucha House Party to a match next week.
Speaking of next week’s show (which will happening the UK), they also announced a Fatal Four-Way featuring Humberto Carrillo, Jack Gallagher, Mark Andrews, and James Drake.

MIKE & MARIA BUMP INTO DRAKE MAVERICK BACKSTAGE- he bars Maria from ringside, too. I’m not sure why he didn’t just do this in the first place, but at least he did it at some point.

SARAH SCHREIBER INTERVIEWS JACK GALLAGHER- good
He puts over his opponents in next week’s match and tells us what it would mean to him to win the match. Humberto Carrillo showed up and offered him a handshake, and Gallagher accepted it, so we have confirmation that there are no hard feelings between those two.

NO DISQUALIFICATIONS MATCH WITH MARIA KANELLIS & BRIAN KENDRICK BARRED FROM RINGSIDE: Akira Tozawa vs. Mike Kanellis- 8.25/10
An awesome match that earned such chants from the crowd.

Another awesome episode of 205. You can take Cedric, Ali, and Murphy away, but the show will still be awesome it is based in excellent in-ring talent and the basic logic that wins and losses have consequences. If you have those two things, you can make anyone feel like a main event talent in a relatively short period of time.
