BRM Reviews the 5/1/2019 NXT (disappoting... but with a segment you ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE)

HUMBERTO CARRILLO, DANNY BURCH, & ONEY LORCAN vs. FORGOTTEN SONS- 6.25/10
Good chaotic action. Forgotten Sons won with a cool three-on-two move.

CATHY KELLEY WANTS TO KNOW IF SHAYNA BASZLER FEELS REMORSE FOR ATTACKING THE SKY PIRATES- excellent!
Shayna cut an arrogant promo mocking the two babyfaces. Cathy then asked if the reason she attacked Io was because Io has beaten Shayna but Shayna has not yet been able to beat Io, and Shayna’s attitude suddenly changed.

BIANCA BELAIR AND MIA YIM HAVE SOME SORT OF DISAGREEMENT AT THE PERFORMANCE CENTER- this was lame. My major takeaway from it was that Performance Center trainers are just as ineffective at getting wrestlers to stop yelling at each other as referees.

MANSOOR vs. DOMINIK DIJAKOVIC- 5/10
Can we please try to make sure we don’t have Mansoor appear on both NXT and NXT UK on the same day if we’re supposed to be pretending that these shows are live?
This was a fantastic five-minute big scary monster vs. plucky underdog match.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- WATCH THIS NOW!
The Velveteen Dream comes out on his couch, pushed by his servants. He’s got his own version of the Star-Spangled Banner. This was FANTASTIC. Not just TVD, but also Dijak just standing there and staring blankly white it happened because he didn’t care about anything TVD had to say (or sing).

UNDISPUTED ERA BACKSTAGE- good
They all agree that Gargano got lucky. Roddy says that Cole is going to kick Riddle’s ass next week. Cole then begins to cut a promo on Riddle and says that “Roddy dropped the ball” last week. Roddy gets angry and walks off. Cole says that Roddy clearly “either can’t take a joke like a man or can’t take a loss like a man.” Bobby & Kyle agree that Cole is being a dick, despite Cole’s insistence that he was just joking.

KASSIUS OHNO vs. KUSHIDA- 6.75/10
Ohno rejects KUSHIDA’s offer of a handshake before the match, which they paid off later on. The match was very good, but disappointingly short (just over eight minutes), considering both the talent involved and the hype it got. Maybe things were rushed because of KUSHIDA getting busted open (he might have broken his nose), but no matter what the reason, this did not come anywhere close to living up to the hype.

A very odd episode of NXT. The matches were all very good for the time they got, but all disappointingly short. The segments were (mostly) good and storylines were moved along, but the main event going so short really felt like it brought things down. This was almost like watching one of those mechanically fine but otherwise unexciting episodes of NXT UK. Hopefully NXT returns to its usual awesome for next week.

Yeah. I didn't know what to expect from this Kushida...but....THAT certainly wasn't it.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.
