JOHNNY SAINT & SID SCALA MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT- odd
That announcement is that Pete Dunne will defend the WWE UK Title as part of the WrestleMania weekend NXT TakeOver: New York. This news was not as exciting as they built it up to be. Based on the way they built it up and decided to start the show with it, it seemed like they were going to announce another Takeover Special or something.
Anyway, Pete Dunne came out and I didn’t hear him say anything, but Nigel claims he said “the huge Austrian,” so I guess he wants to defend the title against WALTER.

TONI STORM INTERVIEW- She cut a promo on Jinny, then passed Rhea Ripley on the stair and we transitioned into a…

RHEA RIPLEY PROMO- GREAT!
I want to see Rhea vs. Xia Brookside more than any match in this promotion right now, and that’s pretty much just off of this one promo.

EL LIGERO vs. EDDIE DENNIS- 6.5/10

KENNY WILLIAMS & AMIR JORDAN AT A GYM- Williams wants Jordan to be serious about his training. Comedy ensures, but at least he finally does a pull-up in the end.

THE HUNT (“Wild Boar” Mike Hitchman & Primate) vs. SAM STOKER & LEWIS HOWLEY- squash
More generic angry bearded British men.

KASSIUS OHNO vs. ASHTON SMITH- 3/10
Ohno won but Smith was allowed to get some offense in.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
Ohno helped Smith up and put his fist out for a fist bump, but then nailed Smith with a rolling elbow. The announcers speculated that Ohno felt disrespected by Smith not accepting his fist bump but said that they thought it wasn’t fair as Smith was clearly still woozy from Ohno’s finishing blows during the match. Travis Banks came out to chase Ohno away.

GALLUS PROMO- This would have been fine if it wasn’t taped with them sitting around at a restaurant, sipping tea in a multi-camera shoot. It just made the whole thing goofy.

JAMES DRAKE vs. TYLER BATE- 7/10
Bate wins clean.

JOHNNY SAINT & SID SCALA CONFIRM THAT WALTER WILL BE THE #1 CONTENDER- yay

Another very meh show of NXT UK. This roster is way too big, and most of the problem is the pointless amount of time given to these generic angry bearded English men (and mostly in the tag team division). There is no TakeOver in sight, and things also feel like they really aren’t going anywhere fast. Even when they don’t have TakeOvers, NXT usually is able to build to smaller “big” matches on TV to keep the stories feeling like they’re moving along.
