AKIRA TOZAWA vs. MIKE KANELLIS (w/Maria Kanellis)- 6/10
Before the match Maria cut a heel promo calling Drake Maverick “lazy” and “rude,” for implying that Mike will be fired if he loses this match. Mike eventually won when Maria got in the way and prevented Tozawa from going to the top rope for his top rope senton, and by the time he ran to another turnbuckle to climb up, Mike was able to recover enough to get his knees up, then hit his finisher and get the win.

Aiden English described Maria as “barking inspiration” to Mike. “Barking” and “inspiration” don’t go together unless an actual dog is involved. Can we end this Aiden English on commentary experiment now?

CEDRIC AXELANDER, BUDDY MURPHY, & TONY NESE BACKSTAGE- decent
The heels interrupted a Cedric Alexander interview. Cedric tried to get into Nese’s head about not being Murphy’s “sidekick” while Murphy smack-talked Cedric about beating him for the title and then defending it against him at TLC, denying him his big moment of redemption.

We’re getting Lucha House Party vs. Gulak, Gallagher, & Carrillo next week. That should be quite interesting.

WRESTLEMANIA #1 CONTENDERSHIP TOURNAMENT FINALS: Cedric Alexander vs. Tony Nese- 8.5/10
Another awesome 205 Live main event, with all of the expected action, drama, and nearfalls of #1 contendership tournament finals. Nese picks up the win, so he’s going to WrestleMania in front of his hometown fans to challenge his training partner for the WWE Cruiserweight Title. We got a post-match handshake and then a slight hug, completing Nese’s slow and soft babyface turn. This felt like a real elevating moment for Nese, taking him from “Murphy’s lackey” to a top guy in his own right.

Aiden English told us that “WrestleMania is an intoxicating Elixir. It does crazy things to the hearts and minds of men.” He’s like Matt Striker if Striker could stay on topic and not say things that outright don’t make sense. And that’s still not a complement.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Okay. Now the face turn is complete.
Buddy Murphy came out to congratulate his pal and pose with him… and then he attacked him and knocked him out with a knee.

Another typically awesome episode of 205 Live.
