BRM Reviews the 1/16/2019 NXT (great)

THE STREET PROFITS vs. THE METRO BROTHERS (Chris & JC)- no rating, fine squash
I am certain that the Metro Bothers must be related to Jenny Rose because of how completely generic they are. They are white males of medium height with relatively short dark brown hair who wear black boots, black pants, plain white t-shirts, and black leather jackets. THEY’RE SO GENERIC. The Street Profits squashed them. Actually Montez Ford pretty much squashed them on his own.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Excellent!
The Forgotten Sons came flying in and assaulted the Street Profits. The fans booed and chanted “WE FORGOT YOU!” at them. The Forgotten Sons posed and started to leave, and the fans then chanted “STAY FORGOTTEN!” at them… so the Forgotten Sons came back and beat up the Street Profits some more. That was great! I actually care about the Forgotten Sons now, and I never thought that would happen.

CATHY KELLEY INTERVIEWS MATT RIDDLE WHILE KEITH LEE WARMS UP IN THE BACKGROUND- fine
She wants know if Riddle will be in Lee’s corner tonight against Ohno. Unfortunately he will not be because he isn’t medically cleared yet. He expressed confidence in his bro’s ability to defeat Ohno but said that he hoped Keith left some of Ohno left for him to get revenge on when he is eventually cleared.

ALEISTER BLACK PROMO- fine
He wants to fight Ciampa next week even though they have a title match at TakeOver: Phoenix a week from Saturday.

WOMEN’S TITLE BUILD SEGMENT- F*CKING AWESOME!
Bianca Belair came out and cut a great promo saying she would win the NXT Women’s Title from Shayna Baszler at TakeOver. Baszler and her pals came out and they exchanged words. Bianca eventually slapped Baszler right in the face, then managed to avoid a Jessamyn Duke kick and slip under the bottom rope with her life intact. This was completely awesome and everyone should go watch it right now.

DOMINIC DIJAKOVIC vs. ADRIAN JAUODE- 5.5/10
This was short but oh so wonderful. It was a great win for Dijak that was wrestled in such a way as to allow Jauode to really stand out from the rest of the roster in defeat.

WAR RAIDERS VIDEO PROMO- SOOOOOO AWESOME!

JOHNNY GARGANO vs. HUMBERTO CARRILLO- 6/10
Another short match that was great for the time it got. After the match Garganno cut a promo on Ricochet into the camera telling him to “show up next week and I’ll give you all of the respect you want.”
Perhaps more importantly, as Gargano headed up the ramp, he stopped in front of a young boy in a Johnny Gargano t-shirt and holding a Johnny Gargano sign, took the sign from the kid and looked at it long and hard… and then, in what was most certainly not a coincidence, we cut away to a…

TOMMASO CIAMPA PROMO- great
He won’t fight Aleister Black next week because “a main event player” waits until the PPV for such things (“not that I’d expect you to understand that”).

VELVETEEN DREAM VIDEO PACKAGE- great
This included Tweeted endorsements from Triple H, Hulk Hogan, Kurt Angle, HBK, and John Cena. In his Tweet, Cena misspelled Midi-chlorians.
Also where has TVD been recently? Is he injured or something?

KEITH LEE vs. KASSIUS OHNO- 6.5/10
This can only be described as an athletic hoss-fight. They also felt like they were holding back for a future match. The finish got GREAT heat.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- good
Matt Riddle ran out to the ring (with referees in hot pursuit) but Ohno ran away. Riddle checked on Lee while the referees warned Ohno back.

A great episode of NXT, with some excellent build to TakeOver and some very solid other stuff to fill things out. You should definitely go out of your way to see the women’s segment, the War Raiders promo, and the Dijakovic vs. Jauode match.
