BRM Reviews the 12/12/2018 205 Live (awesome)

The theme for tonight’s show is that- as agreed to last week- both Cedric Alexander and Buddy Murphy will face off against an opponent of Drake Maverick’s choosing ahead of their big WWE Cruiserweight Title match at TLC this coming Sunday.

GRAN METALIK vs. BUDDY MURPHY- 8.25/10
An awesome opener, and a nice, solid, clean win for Murphy.

DRAVE MAVERICK, AKIRA TOZAWA, & KENDRICK BACKSTAGE- weird
Maverick is basically acting as an interviewer here. These two are booked against Gulak & Gallagher in a Street Fight next week. Kendrick insists that he is a “changed man” and gives a mea culpa for his heelish behavior since returning to WWE. Tozawa want to change Kendrick’s look. Huh? How does that connect? And then Tozawa went back to his dumb “thinks he’s Vince McMahon” gimmick. Is Vince sneaking in and changing things while Hunter isn’t looking?

DREW GULAK & JACK GALLAGHER SELFIE PROMO- fine. They look kind of goofy trying to cut these tough promos in those suits, though.

KAYLA BRAXTON INTERVIEWS ARIYA DAIVARI- meh
He’s a heel complaining that there is “too much flash” and too much of wrestlers being happy about getting complemented on Twitter. This is Vince trying to his cartoon version The Revival again, isn’t it?
Hideo Itami showed up and said that he was very impressed with Daivari after watching his match last week. Daivari called Itami “one of the last real men” in wrestling and thus someone worthy of respect. This feels like ground that is painfully well-tread, without the interesting, connective personalities to get around that problem.

CEDRIC ALEXANDER vs. TONY NESE- 8.5/10
Another awesome 205 Live main event. Cedric wins clean heading into his title shot.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
Buddy Murphy came out to start a post-match brawl that Cedric won. A perfectly fine go-home segment.

This was an awesome episode of 205 Live in the ring, but everything that happened outside of the ring had a very weird vibe to it. Hopefully it turns out to be some sort of anomaly.
