BRM Reviews the 11/28/2018 NXT

Post by Big Red Machine » Nov 30th, '18, 14:15

THE MIGHTY vs. ONEY LORCAN & DANNY BURCH- 6.5/10
A solid win for the babyfaces, spoiled by the heels attacking them after the match like the sore losers they are.

DAKOTA KAI, KAIRI SANE, & IO SHIRAI INTERVIEW- very good
The interviewer noted to Kairi that it looked like maybe her shoulder wasn’t actually down on the final pinfall, to which Kairi responded by saying that “the referee’s call is final” in a way that you knew it bothered her, which, to me, only made her more admirable for being a good sport even in a frustrating situation, because she knows that her complaining about something that may or may not have happened would open the door to heels doing it all the time. She then insisted that she isn’t done with Shayna yet, letting us know that she was not giving up on this feud, but rather was confident in her ability to earn another title shot.
The interviewer then asked the other two why they ran in to help Kairi at War Games. Dakota said that she doesn’t like Shayna due to their history, and she couldn’t stand watching Shayna’s two pals ruining a title match. Io said that she made the save because Kairi is her best friend. Io and Kairi hugged, while Dakota was left out, which made me cackle with glee. Each member of the babyface trio then insisted that they wanted “all three” heels, so hopefully we’ll finally be getting that six-woman tag soon.

MARCEL BARTHEL vs. EC III- 4.5/10
This was EC III’s big return to action after that big injury angle they did where Undisputed Era (and particularly Bobby Fish) destroyed his knee with a chair. These guys only got four minutes but managed to have one of the best four minute matches I’ve ever seen without going all super-spotty.

Here’s a first: BRM actually wants to see Tye Dillinger show up and wrestle a match. Why? Because how awesome would it be Barthel to scream “NIEN!” at Dillinger and have Dillinger respond by chanting “TEN! TEN! TEN!”? That would be so awesome, right? Right? Anyone? It is really just me? Well… then f*ck all of y’all.

EC III PROMO- AWESOME!
Ethan vows revenge on Bobby Fish.

CANDICE LERAE INGORES QUESTIONS FROM INTERVIEWERS ASKING ABOUT THE “DIFFERENT SIDE OF HER” WE’VE SEEN COME OUT- Yup, she’s going heel, too.

VANESSA BORNE vs. MIA YIM- 2.5/10
Another short match. Mia did what she could to carry Borne in the time she was given to do so. Mia got the win.

They told us that the War Raiders are very banged up after the War Games match and we’ll hopefully have an update on their condition next week.

TOMMASO CIAMPA PROMO- good

LARS SULLIVAN vs. KEITH LEE- 6.75/10
I absolutely LOVE the fact that Lee’s tights are light blue with fancy writing and designs in a pink color that matches the blue perfectly… while Sullivan just has red tights that say “LARS” on the back in big black letters. It’s SOOOO perfect.
They had a very fun hoss-fight. I can see people being upset that Sullivan is getting wins on his way out, but if you’re trying to sell idea that he is moving up to the main roster and everyone wants him, then he needs to win. After all, he loses to Lee, then why would Shane and Steph be trying to sign him and not Lee?

An enjoyable episode of NXT despite its in-ring weaknesses, which really more stem from lack of time than matches that weren’t actually good for the time they were given.

Marcel Barthel is one of the worst names I have ever heard.

WHY does it RHYME? lol.

It's pretty bad, but I think you're forgetting some of the 2007-2011 WWE names.

Eric Escobar is still the greatest name ever. They should have stayed with Axel Dieter Jr tho, especially if he just ends up being part of NXT UK

And if he's going to be a stereotypical angry German. "Marcel Barthel" sounds French.

Braden Walker
Marquis Corvon
Gavin Spears
Skip Sheffield
Lucky Cannon
Vance Archer
Derrick Bateman
Also, there is Daniel Bryan, which would have been a fine name for anyone else, but is a bad name for someone already known as "Bryan Danielson."

Lucky Cannon sucked, Corvon deserved better, so did Reks and Archer/Hoyt. Braden walker was just an out of shape Chris Harris who I think was only used once and never seen again for no reason. Bam Neely I just never really liked. I wanna say Gavin Spears was one of your independent guys renamed who never really actually did much at all.

The Daniel Bryan/Bryan Danielson thing is just like the old TNA thing of "changing a former WWE guy's name just enough to where it almost sounds exactly the same, but different enough to still be recognizable, while also getting by copyright issues."

Which was always ridiculous.

Corvon had to leave because his sister and brother-in-law died in a car accident and he had to take care of their kids.

Gavin Spears is Tye Dillinger.

But the point is that the names sucked.

I specially remember some independent dude back then on SD who was never really a jobber, but never really got any wins that went anywhere either. Dark hair, Maybe it was him.

Marcus Cor Von would had been a bigger deal if the whole ECW thing wasn't going on, I think a lot of talent was pushed there and since the show sucked, a lot of wrestlers weren't able to do better.

Also, Archer is in NJPW, and going by your roids fetish, i think you'd appreciate Killer Elite Squad
