BRM Reviews the (second... and much better) 11/14/2018 NXT UK

Post by Big Red Machine » Nov 14th, '18, 21:33

OPENING VIDEO PACKAGE- If you’re going to do little profiles of some of the women in the tournament, you need to do it for all of them, or else you risk making those you omit look secondary, “obviously out in the first round” entrants.

NXT UK WOMEN’S TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL MATCH: Dakota Kai vs. Nina Samuels- 4.5/10
Nina worked over Dakota’s back but Dakota got the win with her stupid-looking finisher. If she’s the “Captain of Team Kick” then shouldn’t she have some sort kick as a finisher?

MARK ANDREWS INTERVIEW & SEGMENT WITH “FLASH” MORGAN WEBSTER- fine
Andrews thinks he’s the best and coolest so he wants a title shot. Webster showed up and suggested that they team up to go for the tag titles when those become a thing. Andrews came across like a total tool here, so I was really hoping to get to see Pete Dunne beat his face in for twenty minutes, but apparently he and Webster are going to be a tag team instead. Well… Andrews was acting like a tool and Webster dresses like one, so they fit together well.

What is the interviewer’s name?

ASHTON SMITH & EDDIE DENNIS SEGMENT- meh
Smith is answering the press’ questions about his loss to Wolfgang in last week’s main event. Eddie Dennis showed up and said that if Smith wants advice on how to do better, he should watch Eddie’s match next week.

TYSON T-BONE vs. A JOBBER- squash

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- good
Tyson T-Bone told us he was unhappy with the level of competition he was given. He then headed towards the back, and Dave Mastiff came out for his match. They passed each other on the ramp, and Mastiff said “you want the best NXT UK has to offer? Then watch this!”

DAVE MASTIFF vs. DAN MOLONEY- squash
Tyson T-Bone (THAT NAME IS SOOOOOOOOOOOO DUMB!) did, in fact, stay on the ramp to watch this match. He seemed to indicate that Mastiff met his standard of competition.

SID SCALA INTERVIEW- good
Seriously, can we get this interviewer a graphic?
Scala says he is worried the fans and the promotion are losing faith in him, but he knows he can get a win if he just gets one more chance, so he’s going to go talk to NXT UK General Manager Johnny Saint.

NXT UK WOMEN’S TITLE TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL MATCH: Jinny vs. Millie McKenzie- 5.5/10
This was short but FANTASTIC for the time it got, and the crowd was super-hot as well.

EL LIGERO VIDEO PACKAGE- He was told he was too small, so he works hard and claims to wrestle a “hybrid” style. That’s what this video package told us. No response to Jordan Devlin calling him out or anything interesting; just the most generic of details. Devlin vs. Ligero will take place next week.

ZACK GIBSON vs. TRENT SEVEN- 8/10
Gibson worked the arm while Seven kept looking for the Seven Star Lariat. Tyler Bate came down to the ring to stop an early effort from Gibson to walk out and so he stayed a ringside to watch. The finishing sequence would begin with Gibson’s tag team partner James Drake running down to ringside and throwing Bate into the stares, then helping Gibson pin Seven on a roll-up via illegal additional leverage.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Wolfgang & the Coffey Brothers attacked Mustache Mountain from behind. This was good because now it doesn’t feel as obvious that the crowning our first tag team champions will inevitably come down to Moustache Mountain vs. the Grizzled Young Veterans.

A MUCH better show than usual from NXT UK. It feels like things are actually happening now and multiple stories are moving forward rather than 90% of the show being short introductory video packages and squash matches.
