BRM Reviews the 10/10/2018 205 Live

LIO RUSH MAKES AN OPEN CHALLENGE- He cut an okay heel promo. His open challenge was answered by Lincé Dorado, so we got...

LIO RUSH vs. LINCÉ DORADO- 6.75/10
They had a pretty great match where Dorado’s mask was once again tugged at so the announcers could emphasize the importance of the mask. Dorado was about to win when the Kanellis’ music started to play, but it seemed to improbable that it was them here on 205 Live that I literally thought it was some other song someone had turned on somewhere else in the house and was genuinely surprised when Lincé was hearing it, too. Then Maria came out on the stage to cause a distraction so Mike could come out of the crowd and push Lincé off the top rope. He then attacked Rush, too. Then Mike and Maria made out in the ring.

BUDDY MURPHY PROMO- good
He’s not here this week because his hanging out in Melbourne because he’s the champ and he can do that.

CEDRIC ALEXANDER & MUSTAFA ALI BACKSTAGE- not good
This was a Raw/SD backstage segment in terms of over-dramatic-ness, but at least still felt like it was about a 205 Live type (i.e. not completely over the top) problem. Said problem was Ali asking Cedric if he was sure he was ready to wrestle again despite having lost his title a mere few days ago.

DREW GULAK & BACK GALLAGHER PROMO- good
He briefly addressed the Kendrick situation by saying he didn’t want to waste any more time on Kendrick, then vowed that he would take Akira Tozawa out next week.

TONY NESE vs. CEDRIC ALEXANDER- 8/10
Awesome match. This was a good strong win for Nese, who really needed a win or else he would seem like he was destined to be a jobber for life. Not only was this, as Vic Joseph put it “the biggest win of Tony Nese’s career,” but having Cedric lose cleanly here sets him on the road to a story where he will have to overcome a loss of confidence, which sets him up as a perfectly-slotted stepping stone for anyone else they want to start pushing. They also could use this to set up a Nese vs. Murphy title match, which would be interesting. I know WWE almost never does heel vs. heel, but 205 Live is the place that is probably best suited for that, and also is the place where you can test it out while suffering the least amount of negative consequences if you fail.

A good episode of 205, though that was mostly due to being bolstered by the main event. Mike & Maria being on 205 Live has me quite intrigued, as there is no way in hell Bennett is a Cruiserweight. Hopefully we’ll get some answers next week.
