BRM Reviews the 4/17/2018 205 Live (great)

ARIYA DAIVARI PROMO- good.
This one little bit of framing was all it took to make me think Daivari had a chance of defeating Mustafa Ali tonight.

ARIYA DAIVARI vs. MUSTAFA ALI- 6/10
Well… he didn’t win. But when was the last time you were watching WWE and thought that the wrestler who was just in his/her division’s biggest match of the year had a snowball’s chance in hell of losing against someone who you didn’t even remember was on the roster?
Daivari worked over Ali’s mid-section. Ali’s selling continues to impress me. His win here also continues the story they started last week of him wanting to earn another title shot.

DRAKE MAVERICK PROMO- he reprimands Buddy Murphy for his despicable actions last week, but notes that he was been winning his matches lately so he was going to give Murphy the title shot he has earned at the Greatest Royal Rumble show in Saudi Arabia.
But then a funny thing happened. Buddy Murphy didn’t make weight, and thus can’t compete on 205 Live until he does so. Therefore, Maverick isn’t going to give Murphy the title shot at Greatest Royal Rumble. Instead, the challenger for that show will be determined by a Gauntlet Match next week.
I liked this a lot. I don’t know Murphy’s weight itself is going to be an on-going story or they just wanted to do this once in order to establish the concept of making weight on Tuesday mornings for some other story they want to tell later on, but either way it is something rather new for WWE, and adds more of a “real-sports” feel to the show.

BRIAN KENDRICK & JACK GALLAGHER vs. TWO JOBBERS- a good, mean squash for our mean, vindictive heels.

DASHA INTERVIEWS MUSTAFA ALI- criticizes Buddy Murphy for ruining Cedric’s celebration last week. I could say the same thing about you, pal. He vows not to let the title slip through his fingers again. Heel turn coming?

DREW GULAK PROMO- awesome

TORNADO TAG TEAM MATCH: Akira Tozawa & Hideo Itami vs. Lucha House Party (Lincé Dorado & Gran Metalik)- 8/10
They explained that Kalisto is not out here with his pals because Drake Maverick asked him to stay in the back so that things don’t escalate in a way they shouldn’t, and he agreed to do so because he really, truly, is interested in the matches being as fair as possible. HOORAY!
The match was exactly the sort of awesome chaos you would expect, but both teams brought the hate, too, with Itami ripping at the Luchadores’ masks. Lucha House Party capitalized off of a miscue by the Japanese to pick up the win, and their buddy Kalisto came out to celebrate with them.

Yet another great episode of 205 Live.

Triple H has saved 205 Live. The proof that Triple H makes my favourite hours of wrestling every week (in 205 Live and NXT) is a sign that he is ready to lead the WWE from the top and it's about time Vince gave Triple H a big show.
