BRM Reviews the 3/13/2019 NXT UK

“FLASH” MORGAN WEBSTER vs. WOLFGANG- 3/10
This was pretty much a squash for Wolfgang… but I find Webster extremely annoying so watching him get his ass kicked was highly entertaining. Wolfgang put a minor beating on him after the match, too, but backed off when he realized he was about to shove a referee, which the announcers told us would have severe repercussions if someone were to actually do it.

KASSIUS OHNO VIDEO PACKAGE/PROMO- He’s sick and tired of being disrespected in American NXT so he has come here to NXT UK… and he is absolutely disgusted that none of these British kids seem to have any idea how to wrestle a traditional British Style. This was a GREAT promo, but it was a little odd that the entire video package was clips of him knocking people out rather than doing traditional British wrestling techniques.

KENNY WILLIAMS & AMIR JORDAN vs. TYSON T-BONE & SAXON HUXLEY- 6.25/10
This is a perfect example of a match that does not need to be happening, featuring wrestlers that this brand does not need to be wasting TV time featuring. And I say this as someone who thought this was a perfectly good small athletic guys vs. big angry guys match, and thought Kenny & Amir getting the win here actually felt like an important step forward for them. But every other male on this show is either a large angry bearded man or small athletic guy, so why do we need two more of each?

JINNY INTERVIEW- she’s sick and tired of hearing about Toni Storm. This wasn’t bad, but was disappointingly generic for a Jinny promo.

EDDIE DENNIS PROMO- good
He promises that El Ligero will become the first of his many victims when they wrestle next week.

NAOM DAR PROMO- meh
He’s a heel now, and is in NXT UK full-time because he thinks this brand needs him to succeed because he’s better than everyone else. He said some mean things about Mark Andrews’ and some others failing in their appearances on 205 Live. Andrews came out and Dar tried to attack him but Andrews hit an enzugiri and Dar bailed.

XIA BROOKSIDE PROMO- meh
She doesn’t like bullies like Rhea Ripley.

KAY LEE RAY vs. CANDYFLOSS- squash
I did not like Nigel ascribing full-sentence, non-crazy-sounding quotes to Nikki Cross. It’s out of character.

MOUSTACHE MOUNTAIN SELFIE PROMO- fine
They plug the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and let us know that they still want a rematch against the Grizzled Young Veterans. Apparently that hasn’t happened because Gibson is injured, but Tyler Bate says he’s going to talk to Johnny Saint about getting himself booked against James Drake. We would later learn that this has been approved and will be next week’s main event.

PETE DUNNE & WALTER vs. THE COFFEY BROTHERS- 7.75/10
A great match, with some good stuff being done both during the match and afterwards to build towards Dunne vs. WALTER for the UK Title.

A fine episode of NXT UK, but mostly on the strength of the main event and post-match confrontation.
