wXw We Love Wrestling #36: Axeman vs. Babo (10/2/2022)- Oberhausen, Germany

Seemingly in an effort to drive me nuts, wXw taped this as an afternoon show before World Tag Team Festival 2022: Night 2, but decided to give it a name that had me unsure as to if it was intended to be broadcast after that show. In their defense, their Vimeo channel had things listed in the right order, but could they not just call this “World Tag Team Festival 2022: Day 2 Afternoon Bonus” or something like that?

PETER TIHANYI vs. FAST TIME MOODO- 6.75/10
A very good opener, although not at the level of their previous two matches (thought it was also five minutes shorter). Tinhanyi gets the monkey off his back and finally beats Moodo.

VINCENT HEISENBERG vs. RAMBO- squash

wXw SHOTGUN TITLE MATCH: Maggot(c) vs. Gulyas Jr. vs. Michael Knight vs. Elijah Blum- 6/10
Maggot retains in a standard four-way.

DAN INTERVIEWS MAGGOT- good
He notes that this defense was “shoe-horned” into his schedule by Director of Sport Norman Harras (who has a vendetta against him and Baby Allison), but he overcame the fact that he could lose his title even without being pinned and he got the win.
Dan then asked if there is any word on his partner for later tonight, Prince Ahura, who was supposed to team with him in the tournament tonight, but is instead at his brother’s wedding. He says he hasn’t heard from him. At this point it occurs to me that Norman and Ahura were in cahoots.

LEVANIEL vs. JACOB CRANE- no rating, decent segment
Before the match Levaniel cut a short promo reminding us that he should be challenging for the wXw Unified World Wrestling Title but Norman Harras won’t let him. Norman’s goons wheeled him out to ringside to watch the match. His presence caused a distraction that Crane used to jump the bell on Levaniel. Levaniel overcame this and quickly got the advantage, so Norman one of his guys to distract the referee while the other punched Levaniel out with some kind of knuckleduster, then pulled Crane onto him for the win.
Norman then cut promo on Levaniel, calling him a fluke. He then announced that later tonight at World Tag Team Festival 2022: Night 2, Levaniel will have to run a gauntlet of Joey Keys and Dante Caballero or else he will have his Shortcut to the Top title shot taken away from him. This segment is the first instance of Norman abusing his power in an obvious, public, and completely undeniable way. One would hope that it would result in the Borad of Directors removing him from his position, but then again, the question of why the board would trust Norman in this position in the first place has been a flaw that has undercut his whole tenure. That being said, even for those who are willing to claim that he sweet-talked his way into the job, these actions here present an escalation which cannot be looked past (unless one assumes that the board either doesn’t care or is amoral, and neither of those are really the image of your promotion that you want to give off).

JURN SIMMONS INTERVIEW- excellent!
Jurn is asked about what just transpired. He says that it’s bullsh*t. Levaniel is a hard worker and Norman stacking the deck against him is unfair. The interviewer presses on about Jurn’s friendship with Levaniel, but Jurn says he doesn’t want to talk about Levaniel anymore. He needs to do his own thing and he’s “not in a good place right now” and needs to deal with his big loss to Heisenberg last night. He ends the promo by apologizing to his opponent tonight, Nick Schreier, who he will have to take his frustration out on.

JURN SIMMONS vs. NICK SCHREIER- squash

BOBBY GUNNS vs. MASHA SLAMOVICH- 7/10
This was a great ten-minute strike-fest. Gunns won cleanly.

KILLER KELLY & MARIA DE LA ROSA vs. IVA KOLASKY & AVA EVERETT- 5.75/10
Everett appeared to be wrestling in street clothes. She was a chicken-sh*t. The babyfaces won, with Maria pinning Everett.

HEKTOR INVICTUS vs. LAURANCE ROMAN- 6.5/10
This was great for the time it got. Roman picked up a much-needed clean win.

AXEL TISCHER vs. METEHAN- 8/10
Metehan won an intense brawl of a wrestling match.

A GREAT episode of We Love Wrestling!
