BRM Reviews wXw Dead End 2022 (disappointing)

wXw Dead End 2022 (7/23/2022)- Hamburg, Germany

AXEL TISCHER vs. LSG- 6.75/10
This built well, and they did a good job of making you think that LSG might actually be able to pull off the win. Axel showed LSG respect after the match. LSG was elevated by this defeat.

LEVANIEL IN-RING PROMO- fine
He comes out and reminds everyone that he has agreed not to interfere in the world title match tonight, no matter what, because Jurn Simmons doesn’t want Levaniel to accidentally cost him the title again. He then begins to talk Jurn up, emphasizing that if Jur wins tonight, he will become the first-ever four-time wXw Unified World Wrestling Champion.
He then began to run down the current champion, Tristan Archer, which brought Archer out. Archer had barely begun to speak when he was interrupted by Jurn Simmons. Jurn told Archer to stop picking on Levaniel and to focus on him instead. He then said that he had “a feeling” that Archer’s allies, Rott & Flott would lose their tag titles tonight and also be unable to interfere in the main event, resulting in the main event truly being one-on-one. Archer shoved Jurn, so Jurn shoved him back harder. Archer we down, then retreated. I’m not really sure what this accomplished other than a little bit of last-minute build for the main event, which seems kind of pointless when you’re already at the big show.

ROTT & FLOTT PROMO- fine
They railed against Jurn, and then hyped up their tag title defense.

wXw WOMEN’S TITLE MATCH: Baby Allison(c) vs. B3CCA- 4.75/10
The announcer noted that B3CCA has just one win in wXw, but her request for a title shot was granted by Director of Sport Norman Harras. The same Norman Harras who was slapped by Baby Allison last week after she thwarted his plan to cause dissension in her stable by making Maggot defend the Shotgun Title against Heisenberg and making Baby Allison the Special Guest Referee (she convinced them to let the match be a time-limit draw).
BECCA was good at being a mean, nasty heel. Baby Allison won cleanly.

wXw WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH IN WHICH THE LOSING TEAM WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENTER WORLD TAG TEAM FESTIVAL: Rott und Flott(c) vs. Only Friends (Bobby Gunns & Michael Knight)- 6.5/10
They basically ignored tag rules for most of the match. Then the babyfaces appeared to get the win, making both heels tap out at the same time, but Senior Referee Tassilo Jung came out and said that the match should be restarted because in neither case was a legal wrestler making the other legal wrestler submit. Having another referee come out from the back and overturn a call is not a can of worms that a promotion should ever open. A minute and a half later, the heels won after a low blow… and no second referee came out to tell the first referee to overturn the call. That’s why you don’t want to open that can of worms. And
(Yes, the lack of consistency here could theoretically be blamed on Norman Harras wanting to screw former partner Bobby Gunns, but then you have to explain why a second referee doesn’t come out every other time from now until the end of time.)

AIGLE BLANC & SENZA VOLTO vs. AMBOSS (w/Robert Dreissker & Laurance Roman)- 6.75/10
This was some good action ending in a disappointing double-count-out.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
They kept brawling. Amboss won the brawl, but were then attacked by LSG and Elijah Blum, seeking revenge for past attacks. Amboss took them down, too, even though Blum had a chair. They set up to Pillmanize Blum’s neck, but the other three babyfaces were able to recover and make the save. This was a fine escalation of Amboss’ actions, and should set up for an eight-man tag down the road.

ONLY FRIENDS INTERVIEW- good
Lots of emotion here. This came close to justifying the decision to give the babyfaces the fake win with such a long celebration before the restart by having them lean into the idea that they had the titles literally in their hands.

wXw SHOTGUN TITLE MATCH: Maggot(c) (w/Baby Allison) vs. Apu Singh-5.75/10
This title defense on “short notice” is also being portrayed as Norman Harras punishing the Maggot/Baby Allison/Vincent Heisenberg stable. Maggot overcame the larger opponent and got the win.
After the match, Baby Allison and Maggot cut a promo gloating that Norman Harras’ attempt to punish them had not paid off, as they both retained their titles.

LAST CHANCE MATCH FOR THE wXw UNIFIED WORLD WRESTLING TITLE: Tristan Archer(c) vs Jurn Simmons- 7.25/10
Archer won due to interference by Vincent Heisenberg, who Levaniel had listed in his earlier promo as someone Jurn had “destroyed.” The most logical direction out of this is that Jurn will blame this loss on Levaniel and will turn on him (I believe Alexander James’ comment from a few years ago about Jurn eventually turning on every tag partner he has ever had is still true… aside from James himself, who specifically said that he turned on Jurn before Jurn had the chance to turn on him), but that would be quite disappointing, as I think having Levaniel as his “little buddy” adds a needed dimension to Jurn.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
Heisenberg attacked Jurn. Levaniel came out to help Jurn, and together they fought Heisenberg off.

This was another disappointing show from wXw. It just did not feel like a big show, and the action didn’t hit that point, either. The complete and total lack of direction in the women’s division and the haphazard booking of the Shotgun Title have been major negatives, and this show added a preponderance of screwy finishes to that as well.

If you could hold off on posting my All Out review to the main page for an hour or two, there are some typos I need to fix. Didn't have time to proofread when I found out about all of the post-show craziness.
