BRM Reviews wXw We Love Wrestling #34 (bad)

wXw We Love Wrestling #34 (6/29/2022)- Oberhausen, Germany

This was also taped on 6/12/2022. wXw is not making it easy for me to keep to a consistent dating system with these.

wXw SHOTGUN TITLE MATCH: Maggot(c) vs. Sebastian Suave- 6/10
Maggot won cleanly to retain his title.

NORMAN HARRAS MAKES AN ANNOUNCEMENT- We’ll see how it turns out
Said announcement is that Prince Ahura is back. He’s wearing a Shotgun Championship belt. I had completely forgotten that he had had vacated the title… although apparently he didn’t vacate it but rather he was suspended and stripped of it. I believe this is the first time that either that title vacancy or Ahura’s absence have been explained. Said title vacation happened LAST AUGUST! And we still don’t know what Ahura did to warrant such a major suspension.
Anyway, Ahura is apparently a babyface now, and the fans are reacting to him as such. Norman has a contract all ready for Ahura to sign. Ahura was very polite to Norman (if a little smug). He made a speech and handed the microphone to Norman. Norman went to speak, but the mic wouldn’t work. He went to the ring announcer to get a new one, but the ring announcer realized that the mic Norman was holding had been shut off. And while that was happening, behind Norman’s back, Ahura switched the contract out with one he had brought with him, hidden behind the Shotgun Title belt. Ahura signed it, then handed it to Norman to sign. Norman read the contract, and was very confused when instead of saying what he expected it to say, it said that Ahura’s first match back would be a wXw Unified World Wrestling Title #1 contendership match… against Norman Harras.
Or at least Norman pretended to be confused. These two did not part on the best of terms the last time they were together, and Ahura made a habit of irritating Norman even when they were in the same stable, but they are both manipulative heels, and I wouldn’t put it past them to be working together, with Ahura’s bringing the contract being a way for Norman to have plausible deniability for what is actually an abuse of power.
Or, based on their history together, it’s possible that Ahura did this all on his own, because he thinks he will easily be able to get into Norman’s head as he has in the past, and this thinks he will be an easy opponent. We’ll have to see.
Either way, though, I don’t see Ahura as a babyface at all here (and he seems like he’s supposed to be a babyface in that second scenario). He is using duplicity to get a #1 contendership match he has done nothing to earn.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS BABY ALLISON- meh
Andy asks her for her thoughts on the return of Prince Ahura, who is her current boyfriend’s former tag team partner. She ignored the question, rhetorically asking Andy if she was facing Ahura tonight.
Allison cut a promo to build up her title defense tonight against Iva Kolasky. She was completely right that Iva has been whiny and heelish lately, but Allison herself didn’t come off like a babyface at all here because she (and Maggot) never actually did anything to turn babyfaces themselves, so even though nothing she is saying is wrong, her exasperation with this situation comes off as her being unlikable herself.

MICHAEL KNIGHT vs. HEKTOR INVICTUS- 4.5/10
Knight picked up the clean win in a short match that was very good for the time it got. We got a nice show of respect from both men after the match.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS MICHAEL KNIGHT- fine
This was more of a touch-point to remind us of Bobby Gunns’ injury. Knight says that Gunns will be back in a few weeks, and then the two of them will prove that they are the best tag team in wXw.

JURN SIMMONS & LEVANIEL vs. TRISTAN ARCHER & MICHAEL SCHENKENBERG (w/Nikita Charisma)- 5.75/10
We got a lot of gaga early on, but eventually things got underway. It was standard fair until they set up a spot where Levaniel jumped in to stop Archer from hitting Jurn with the wXw Unified World Wrestling Title belt and they got into a tug of war and Archer let go, but this turn Levaniel managed to stop himself before accidentally smacking Jurn with the belt, and the babyfaces came back and won.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- GREAT!
Jurn wound up with the belt, and half-shoved/half-threw it into the chest of Tristan Archer as he was retreating up the ramp. Andy Jackson then interviewed Jurn, who demanded a rematch for “his” title… and then he turned to Levaniel and made it very clear to him that Levaniel was not to interfere in the match “for any reason,” no matter how good his intentions, or “you’re ass is mine, too!”

wXw WOMEN’S TITLE MATCH: Baby Allison(c) vs. Iva Kolasky- 4.5/10
Allison won cleanly in a match that was good for the time it got. They really need to find some women who they aren’t worried won’t stink up the joint if they go ten or fifteen minutes. At the moment, the only one they seem to have is the often-injured Stephanie Maze.

PSYCHO MIKE vs. JAKOB CRANE- DUD!
Psycho Mike’s gimmick of being obsessed with bodyslams has already worn out its welcome with me. He even offered Crane five Euros to let him bodyslam him. That’s attempted bribery. That right there should get you banned from a promotion for life. Crane took the money, and- of course- reversed the bodyslam into a small package. Unfortunately, that was not the finish.
They did a bunch of bodyslams until Crane tapped out to avoid another bodyslam. Mike the waited until the referee was looking elsewhere, and bodyslammed Crane anyway. How is that likable?

MASHA SLAMOVICH vs. ORSI- 3.5/10
This was pretty one-sided without being a squash. Slamovich won cleanly in exactly six minutes.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS MASHA SLAMOVICH- fine
She demanded to be booked for Femme Fatales, with the argument that she just beat the only competitor announced so far. The crowd agreed with her logic, cheering loudly.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS AXEL TISCHER- great
Axel reflects on the great success he had in his first six month back in wXw, and then compares if with the past few months of major defeats he has suffered since losing the wXw Unified World Wrestling Title. He talked about the importance of learning from your mistakes and getting back up. His road to redemption starts in his rematch against Cara Noir next month at Dead End 2022 in Hamburg. This was a real human dealing with real human emotions, which is what wXw does better than anyone.

AMBOSS (Robert Dreissker, the Arrows of Hungary, & Laurance Roman) vs. TEAM GRESHAM (Jonathan Gresham, The Rotation, Elijah Blum, & Peter Tihanyi)- 6.25/10
The Rotation has an injured hand. The babyfaces put up a decent fight, but the heels dominated in the end. And that makes sense when you look at the team Gresham went with. Tihanyi is a midcarder with potential, The Rotation is an undercard guy, and Blum is basically a student. But because of that, this really shouldn’t have been the main event. The wXw Women’s Title match should have been the main event, with Iva and Allison being given the chance to sink or swim.

Despite one or two great moments, this was a bad show from wXw. The wrestling was a particular weakness. Yes, I know they taped this the same day as another episode, but in that case, you should at least make sure that what you’re going to put in the main event of this show is something that will definitely deliver.
