wXw Catch Grand Prix 2021: Blitzturnier Part 2 (9/25/2021)- Oberhausen, Germany

CATCH GRAND PRIX BLITZTURNIER SEMIFINAL RELAXED RULES MATCH: Bobby Gunns vs. Maggot (w/Baby Allison)- 5/10
“Relaxed Rules” in wXw is just no DQs. Bobby Gunns won after stabbing Maggot in the head with a big scary thing after a prolonged struggle over it.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS BOBBY GUNNS- great
Bobby is always great.

CATCH GRAND PRIX BLITZTURNIER SEMIFINAL AMBITION RULES MATCH: Axel Tischer vs. Fast Time Moodo- 6.25/10
Tischer got the win. Moodo had a good showing.

AXEL TISCHER PROMO- a good promo setting up the finals.

ABSOLUTE ANDY HAS RELINQUISHED HIS POSITION AS DIRECTOR OF SPORTS AND WILL BE REPLACED BY FRANCIS KASPIN- Really? Francis Kaspin? His reputation for heelishness is just as bad as Andy’s! Can’t the Board of Directors find someone honorable for this important role?
Kaspin says he can’t wrestle anymore, but he has made his peace with that. He says that he will take the wrestling business to new heights. He revealed that he finally got Amele to vacate and send back the wXw Women’s Title, so that belt it back.
He also announces that we’re having 21st Anniversary Show at the usual time in the Turbinhalle in Oberhausen. Kind of weird to have two Anniversary Shows in a year, but at least they’re back on schedule now.

SINGLES MATCH FOR THE VACANT wXw SHOTUNG TITLE: Norman Harras vs. Vincent Heisenberg (w/Baby Allison)- 6/10
Norman seems to have his mojo back, but he still wasn’t able to overcome the combination of Heisenberg’s size and Baby Allison causing a distraction.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- good
Heisenberg went after Norman after the bell. Francis Kaspin came out and warned him not to. First Anil Marik (with a chair) and then Avalanche came out to make the save, with Avalanche getting his hands on the chair and being able to take Heisenberg out of the ring. Norman was quite rude to Anil and Avalanche, even though they had just saved him.

wXw UNIFIED WORLD WRESTLING TITLE MATCH: Marius Al-Ani(c) vs. Cara Noir- 8.75/10
This was a tremendous match built around both guys chasing their finishers. Cara Noir really is a special talent and an absolutely tremendous babyface, and Marius really is up there with Roman Reigns in terms of coming across as the world champion.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS THE WINNER- great!

CATCH GRAND PRIX BLITZTURNIER FINALS CATCH GRAND PRIX RULES MATCH: Axel Tischer vs. Bobby Gunns- 7.5/10
This is the usual Catch Grand Prix Rules (three-minute rounds, fines for breaking rules, card system) except that because we must have a winner, there will be an unlimited number of rounds instead of the usual six.
They did a good job telling a story with the rounds. Gunns did his thing working over body parts while Tischer was the tough babyface, fighting through the pain to keep going. Tischer’s win a more than little predictable, but they had him in enough peril that they had me starting to doubt my certainty. Tischer cut a good babyface promo afterwards.

This was a good show from wXw. Forcing the tournament into one night (the result of construction the scheduled venue) certainly hurt the matches, but the world title match and main event were good enough to help the whole show overcome that. Throw in several important storyline announcements and moments, and you’ve got yourself a good show.
