wXw We Love Wrestling 17 (7/16/2021)- Oberhausen, Germany

DAN INTERVIEWS NORMAN HARRAS- great
Norman has his excuses for losing recently, but says that his climb to the top begins tonight. He’s doing an excellent job of coming across like someone who you know the confidence is in there, but he’s having trouble believing in himself and is then blaming it on external factors rather than his own problems.

GULYAS JUNIOR vs. NORMAN HARRAS- 5.75/10
They told a good story with Norman’s desperation to bet Gulyas, which, in turn, made his defeat feel all the more humiliating. They’ve actually done a pretty great job with the way they’ve treated Gulyas up to this point, letting him feel credible while still coming across like someone it would be humiliating to lose to, both due to him poor win-loss record and his poor physique and even poorer hygiene. This loss will surely not help Norman’s psyche, and the taunting he will surely endure from Bobby Gunns and Prince Ahura will only make it worse.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS NORMAN HARRAS- didn’t like it
Norman is in complete denial now. This is taking it too far for me. It’s coming off as comedic, and it shouldn’t be.

EARLIER TODAY, ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS TRISTAN ARCHER- meh
Archer should not be allowed to talk in English for long periods of time. They should be cutting his promos into sound-bytes and turning them into video packages. He was a gracious loser, realizing that his mistake at Fans Appreciation Night 2021: Night 2 was purely his own. He said that he wanted to earn another title shot against Marius, and they pushed that winning tonight’s six-man tag against Marius’ team would move him along towards that goal (especially if he pinned Marius).

AXEL TISCHER JUNIOR RETURNS AT THE FIRST SHOW WITH REAL FANS IN OBERHAUSEN, WHICH IS THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW- Isn’t wXw’s Anniversary Show usually in December?

BABY ALLISON, VINCENT HEISENBERG, & MAGGOT INTERVIEW- awesome!
The interviewer said that it’s good to see them back on the same page, but Maggot and Baby Allison jumped in and denied that there was ever any dissension in the first place. They accused him of trying to say things to get into Heisenberg’s head.
The announcer asked Heisenberg about his match with Paris tonight, but Heisenberg said he only wants Feyyaz so he can get revenge on him for stopping him from using a chair in the mask vs. hair match in which Heisenberg wound up losing his hair. The announcer told Heisbenberg that he would be fined if he attacked Feyyaz outside of a match, so Heisenberg vowed to destroy everyone who was put in his path until the office had no choice but to book him against Feyyaz so that he could destroy Feyyaz. Heisenberg has this almost-unhinged, dangerous monster gimmick down perfectly.

PARIS BALLIS vs. VINCENT HEISENBERG (w/Baby Allison & Maggot)- no rating, great squash
Heisenberg squashed Paris, then gave him a few shots after the match, too. Andy asked him about the match and he replied “there’s nothing to say.” Then he grabbed the mic from Andy, looked right into the camera and said “Give. Me. Feyyaz.”

DAN INTERVIEWS SENZA VOLTO & AIGLE BLANC- very good
They note that their previous match against the Arrows of Hungary was their first match as a team, and they pulled off the upset, so tonight will be no different.

WINNERS GET A wXw WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE SHOT AT SHORTCUT TO THE TOP 2021: Arrows of Hungary vs. Aigle Blanc & Senza Volto- 7.75/10
A strong match that felt like it could have really helped make this show if it had gone twenty instead of just twelve. The Arrows get the clean win, with the artistic bit being that they have now defeated the team they lost at the beginning of their recent troubles, completing the comeback.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS THE ARROWS OF HUNGARY- A perfectly fine “we’re ecstatic after a big win so can’t really talk very well right now” promo.

DENNIS “CASH” DULLNIG INTERRUPTS FAST TIME MOODO GIVING US AN UPDATE ON STEPHANIE MAZE’S CONDITION- good
Maze’s recovery is going slower than expected, so we won’t get the team of Maze and Moodo back for a while. Dullnig showed up and suggested that because Maze is injured and Dennis’ (unwilling) partner, Hektor Invictus, is “missing” (my assumption is that Dennis assaulted him and left him for dead), they should form a tag team. Apparently these two go back quite a bit. Moodo refused, saying that he knows Dennis well enough to know that Dennis would be a terrible tag team partner. Dennis gets annoyed and makes fun of Moodo for waiting for Stephanie Maze and insults Maze by claiming that the fact that she isn’t back from her injury yet is a sign that she isn’t tough enough. Moodo gets annoyed and resolves to go to management and ask for a singles match against Dennis.

DAN INTERVIEWS THE ROTATION- meh
This was build for the next match, but The Rotation didn’t have anything interesting to say.

PETER TIHANYI vs. THE ROTATION- 7/10
Great action. I could have done without the spot where they took turns letting the other one hit them, but other than that, this was great. This is the sort of match that you need to let your up-and-comers have.

DAN INTERVIEWS TEAM wXw WRESTLING ACADEMY- fine
They are babyface paragons of virtue, and put over their challengers. Avalanche was also asked about Heisenberg’s comments earlier. He mostly repeated what he said last week about it not being okay for Feyyaz to interfere in a match, but that it was understandable why he did so, given what the heels had done to him. The important bit of info here is that Heisenberg will not be getting his desired match against Feyyaz because Feyyaz is just a student and not yet ready to compete in wXw. He is merely here to help out backstage and to watch the matches, so Heisenberg or anyone else may not put their hands on him, just like with any other backstage employee (though I do have to ask why the heels weren’t punished when they initially put their hands on poor Feyyaz).

DAN INTERVIEWS MARIUS AL-ANI & ROTT & FLOTT- fine
Just some decent character interaction, with Marius showing that he feels himself to be well above his partners (and he is).

TRISTAN ARCHER, LEON VAN GASTEREN, & TIM STUBIN vs. MARIUS AL-ANI & ROTT & FLOTT- 7/10
Archer picks up the clean submission win. He didn’t make Marius tap, but Marius was involved in the finishing sequence in a way that made Archer feel like an immediate threat to Marius again.

TRISTAN ARCHER PROMO- good
Marius forgot his belt, so Archer went over to it and cut a good promo. Seeing as how there is only one episode of Shotgun between now and the next big show, I don’t mind them running this title match back.

This was a good episode of We Love Wrestling. Probably the best one we’ve seen yet in terms of in-ring action, it set up a match or two for Shortcut to the Top 2021. Shortcut to the Top is wXw’s Royal Rumble, so one or two decently strong title matches is all you really need for an undercard, so the built is moving along at an acceptable pace.
