NJPW G1 Climax 28, Day 13
August 2, 2018
Fukuoka, Japan

Toa Henare & Ren Narita vs Toru Yano & Gedo - 4/10
Stardard opener with Yano and Gedo comedy. Yano won on Narita with a takedown and pin. Nothing to this. Narita was the best of the match.

Hirooki Goto & YOH vs Guerrillas of Destiny - 5/10
GoD got the jump on CHAOS, and while they had small comeback, GoD kept control and worked over YOH for a while. Goto and Tama Tonga got to do their thing for about 1 minute before getting Loa and YOH in again for Loa to win via Apeshit. Another nothing match, but at least the wrestling was good.

Juice Robinson & David Finlay vs Zack Sabre Jr & TAKA Michinoku - 5/10
Sabre vs Juice was really good, short, but great. Finlay pinned TAKA after a Stunner. After the match, Sabre tried to get a cheap shot in and re-injured the arm, but Finlay made the save.

Kenny Omega & Chase Owens vs Tomohiro Ishii & SHO - 6/10
OK match, they kept Ishii and Omega apart from each other, so it was Owens who shone like always. Kenny superkicked Owens mistakenly, which fed him to a Backstabber/Brainbuster combo for the CHAOS win.

Tetsuya Naito & SANADA vs Kota Ibushi & Yujiro Takahashi - 6.5/10
This was all Naito, working both Ibushi towards their match, but he fought with Yujiro too working that nostalgia. Naito worked over Ibushi's leg all match, even at the end, he locked a submission on Ibushi while SANADA locked in the Skull End on Yujiro for the submission win.

G1 Climax 28 Block A Match
Bad Luck Fale (6) vs Michael Elgin (4) - 6/10
Bit of a hoss fight that tried to make Elgin look smaller next to Fale, but Elgin wouldn't back down and had the strength to take on the giant. Fale worked over Elgin's injured arm for all match, Elgin meanwhile just hit Fale with all he had. Loa obviously came in and out of the match a lot. Finish saw Loa come in, but Elgin took him out, and as he was about to take out Fale too, Tama Tonga came in and just destroyed Elgin with a chair, no other answer than to DQ Fale.

Post-match - The Firing Squad attacked Elgin after the match with a chair, killed all the Young Lions and kept the attack. This was surprisingly heavy that this could lead to a feud further down the line, or the way to write Elgin off for a while if he is indeed injured.

G1 Climax 28 Block A Match
Togi Makabe (4) vs Hangman Page (2) - 8/10
This match was about showcasing Page. He started strong with dives and taking on Makabe with everything he had, to the point that he felt at Makabe's level in the striking department. From the get go, these guys were playing the striking game, but as the match went on, Page started also showing off more strength by tossing Makabe around. Towards the finish, Page rolled out of the King Kong Knee Drop. A few strike exchanges more, Page landed a hell of a Buck Shot and the Rite of Passage for his first pin win of the tournament. This was a fun match.

G1 Climax 28 Block A Match
"Switchblade" Jay White (8) vs YOSHI-HASHI (2) - 7/10
This kinda continued the story with White claiming insubordination from YOSHI-HASHI, the match started with White killing YH outside the ring, just ramming him all over to the point that commentary was going crazy out of fear of losing audio again. Back inside the ring, White went for the Bladerunner, but YH got out of it.

YOSHI made a small comeback that didn't really hurt White that much, but it did lead to a ref bump where White low blowed YH and another attempt of the Bladerunner that YH once again got out of. YOSHI chased Karma and the Buterfly Lock, but after Karma, White landed on his feet, hit Bladerunner and got the win. Not a bad match, but White just felt completely dominant here. I wish this had been White vs YOH instead.

G1 Climax 28 Block A Match
Hiroshi Tanahashi (10) vs EVIL (8) - 8/10
Back and forward match, they went from inside to the outside to the inside and on and on. Story was that every time that Tanahashi started to build momentum, he'd be cut off by EVIL, go worked over Tanahashi's bad shoulder. Tanahashi at one point escaped the Darkness Falls and when EVIL signaled for Everything is Evil, Tanahashi got out and made his proper comeback and hit his signature moves.

EVIL landed Darkness Falls and a lariat for a near fall. Tanahashi blocked EIE, hit one last High Fly Flow and got the pin. Good match and a good finish.

G1 Climax 28 Block A Match
Kazuchika Okada (8) w/Gedo vs Minoru Suzuki (8) w/El Desperado - 8.5/10
Suzuki's dominance in this match was great, but similar to his match with Tanahashi, after dominating so much, at the end, Okada made a comeback and won. From early on, Suzuki jumped Okada, took him all around the ringside, throwing him to the chairs and such for a near fall. Suzuki worked Okada's arms.

After the midpoint of the match, Okada started to make a comeback, trying to stand up to Suzuki's striking game, but once again he got his ass kicked, but out of desperation, Okada lands his dropkick and the Tombstone to take Suzuki off his game. Okada and Suzuki start going for the GSP with tons of reversals. Okada once again won with the Rolling Rainmaker and Rainmaker combo. Not their best bout, but the best match of the night.

Post-match - Okada cut his 5th win promo saying that he needs to win the next matches and he will.

OVERALL THOUGTHS
Somewhat weak of a show, probably at the bottom or so of the whole tournament. Still some good stuff here and there, but not something that you need to watch if you're trying to get back on schedule.
