NJPW G1 Climax 26: Day 9 (7/31/2016)- Gifu, Japan

MICHAEL ELGIN & DAVID FINLAY JR. vs. TIGER MASK IV & YUJI NAGATA- 4.5/10

JUSHIN “THUNDER” LIGER, MANABU NAKANISHI, SATOSHI KOJIMA, & KATSUYORI SHIBATA vs. NAOMICHI MAARUFUJI & CHAOS (Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI, & Gedo)- 4.25/10
The only highlight was first Shibata and then Kojima beating the sh*t out of Yano. Shibata walked off and refused to participate in his teammates’ victory celebration.

CAPTAIN NEW JAPAN & RYUSUKE TAGUCHI vs. BULLET CLUB (Kenny Omega & Yujiro Takahashi)- 4.25/10
Omega and Taguchi were entertaining together.

JUICE ROBINSON, TOMOAKI HONMA, & KUSHIDA vs. LOS INGOBERNABLES DE JAPON (Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, & BUSHI)- 6/10

BLOCK A MATCH: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tama Tonga- 7.25/10
A much different match than you usually see out of Ishii, which is a good thing. There were a lot of good reversals in here and a lot of good nearfalls.

BLOCK A MATCH: Bad Luck Fale vs. Sanada- 4.25/10
No DQ for hitting a guy with a freakin’ BASEBALL BAT?! Or smashing a guardrail on top of him?

BLOCK A MATCH: Togi Makabe vs. Naomichi Marufuji- 7.25/10
One hell of a hard-hitting match, with both guys working their opponent’s head. Marufuji comes out on top, handing Makabe his first loss of the tournament.

BLOCK A MATCH: Hiroyoshi Tenzan (w/Satoshi Kojima) vs. Kazuchika Okada (w/Gedo)- 7.25/10
A very good match with one heck of a great finish. Okada worked the head a lot, but Tenzan’s big headbutts on the comeback still worked. This Tenzan storyline just makes me want to see him win so badly and makes it seem like no win is off limits, but no matter which direction they take this Tenzan story in, Okada going over was the right finish here.

BLOCK A MATCH: Hirooki Goto vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi (w/Yoshitatsu)- 7.75/10
Tanahashi’s comeback continues… which is unfortunate because it felt like this was a match that it would have been more beneficial for Tanahashi to lose.

A skippable show from New Japan. The G1 matches are solid enough if you want to watch them, but there is nothing worth going out of your way to see.
