TJPW 8th Tokyo Princess Cup, Day 6
August 14, 2021
Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan

Mahiro Kiryu & Yuki Aino vs. Kaya Toribami & Nao Kakuta - 4.5/10
Ok match, nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. Kakuta got the win with Shindeka over Kiryu.

Mirai Maiumi & Moka Miyamoto vs. Arisu Endo & Suzume - 6/10
I really really liked this match, it wasn't the best by all means, but I really enjoyed the Endo and Suzume team, especially against Mirai. It was just a bunch of fast paced wrestling by two rookies with A LOT of energy. Suzume got the win with Ring The Bell over Moka.

Aja Kong, Haruna Neko & Raku vs. Hyper Misao, Nodoka Tenma & Yuki Kamifuku - 4/10
Before the match started, Hyper Misao explained that their team was the Aja Kong Fan Club, they had masks and all, and wanted to get a photo with Kong, which ended up being a plan to jump Kong before the match, spray her and hopefully take her out while they beat up Raku and Neko. The plan kinda worked.

The match wasn't that good, Kong can barely move and Neko and Raku are not that exciting, but at the end, Kong knows her strengths and plans her spots for them and what she did with both Tenma and Kamiyu was really fun. Kamiyu pinned Neko with a Fameasser.

Antonio Honda, Pom Harajuku, & Rika Tatsumi vs. NEO Biishiki-gun (Mei Saint-Michel, Sakisama & Yukio Saint Laurent) - 6.5/10
Gon the Fox spot aside, this was really fun, and nothing against the Fox, but Honda always makes a penis joke about it and it's all good for DDT, but it felt out of place for TJPW. He actually never got to the punchline and thus didn't get excommunicated from TJPW, but still, we all knew he was going there.

Saint Laurent is pretty much a Frankenstein's monster situation, except he is both the doctor AND the monster in this case, and so part of the match played into them having the magic syringe that gave YSL more power, and so while the match was going normal, with the usual Honda and Mei shenanigans, it came down to Honda getting his hands on the syringe and gave Pom and Rika more power. It unfortunately wasn't enough for Pom, who ended up submitting to Sakisama's Versailles Foot Choke.

Post-match - Sakisama talked a little bit, but the relevant thing was Mei asking to tag team with Martha, so I guess Martha may be coming back. Martha is Masahiro Takanashi, who just recovered and came back from leg surgery.

Marika Kobashi & Miyu Yamashita vs. Hikari Noa & Yuka Sakazaki - 7.5/10
Yuka Sakazaki is finally back from her short excursion, and she came right in to a match with some big names. Her long time rival Yamashita, the current International Champion Noa, and (IMO) an up and comer Kobashi. Match was all action, they did a lot of Yamashita versus Sakazaki, but at the end, things broke down into tornado action. At the end, it came down to Sakazaki and Kobashi, with the former hitting the Magical Merry-Go-Round for the win.

Tokyo Princess Cup 2021 Semi Final Match
Shoko Nakajima vs. Miu Watanabe - 8/10
This was a really good match, but it really was just a back and forth contest, they kept the drama to a minimum. It was a match between Miu's raw power and Nakajima's resiliency. Miu worked the back, just slamming and pummeling Shoko left and right, she legit would lift her from the floor into a Dominator position and slam her down; meanwhile, Nakajima focused on the head, constantly going for submission attempts to keep Watanabe off her feet. At the end, when things started to look bleak for Nakajima, she got Watanabe and landed Locomotion Northern Lights and kept the bridge for the pin.

Crazy that someone like Miu Watanabe, with her smile and size, is the powerhouse of the promotion, and she backs it up.

Tokyo Princess Cup 2021 Semi Final Match
Mizuki vs. Maki Itoh - 8.5/10
I think there is an argument here that this may had been Itoh's best match workrate-wise. Her earlier matches with Mizuki were full of emotion and storyline, but it's been years and she has now developed some in-ring skill and progression to her matches.

The story of the match was that Itoh was coming in with the incomplete fracture from her match with Suzume, and while MIzuki wouldn't be a dick and go after the injury, a lot of Itoh's strongest moves are head-based. Most of the match saw both women go after the midsection, Itoh looking to hurt the back towards the Crab, while Mizuki chases the footstomps, but the reality is that Mizuki is still better than Itoh, so as the match went on, because she will stop at nothing to prove she's not a failed idol, Itoh pushed herself into using the headbutt and risk injuring herself further. The climax of that was Itoh going for the top rope headbutt and being so hurt that she can't even capitalize. Mizuki came close to making a comeback with a series of strikes, but after failing with the normal Crab and the Itoh Punish, Itoh finally unleashes Itoh Deluxe and taps out Mizuki.

Itoh vs Nakajima for the finals.

Post-match - Itoh cut her winner's promo saying that no one believed the 'all talk, no substance' Itoh would make it this far, but she did. She said she didn't believe in fairy tale endings, but maybe she'll be the proof they do exist.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
This was a really good show from TJPW, not only the tournament matches were good, but most of the card something going on for it, whether comedy or workrate.
