G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 1
TOGI MAKABE vs. TAMA TONGA-
Makabe wins clean in ten minutes, dominating most of the match and winning with a big lariat.

HIROOKI GOTO vs. BAD LUCK FALE-
They wind up in some sort of double count-out.

TOMOHIRO ISHII vs. HIROYOSHI TENZAN (w/Satoshi Kojima)-
Ishii gets a lot of offense in but Tenzan hangs in there, absorbing all of the punishment and always getting back up for more. Tenzen makes his comeback and wins clean via Moonsault in fifteen minutes.

HIROSHI TANAHASHI vs. SANADA-
Sanada wins clean in twenty minutes via submission focusing on the injured shoulder.

NAOMICHI MARUFUJI vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA (w/Gedo)-
Marufuji wins clean in twenty-five minutes, as we end the night with three progressively bigger upsets.

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 3
TAMA TONGA(0) vs. HIROYOSHI TENZAN(2) (w/Satoshi Kojima)-
Tenzan wins clean via Moonsault in ten minutes.

BAD LUCK FALE(1) vs. TOMOHIRO ISHII(0)-
Fale wins the hoss fight clean in twelve minutes

TOGI MAKABE(2) vs. HIROSHI TANAHASHI(0)-
MAKABE SMASH! Makabe dominates again, winning clean with the big lariat and the diving knee drop in eleven minutes.

SANADA(2) vs. NAOMICHI MARUFUJI(2)-
Sanada picks up the clean upset win in twenty minutes. Not that beating Tanahashi isn’t a big deal, but Tanahashi was injured. Marufuji is not only perfectly healthy, but he is coming off of a win over the IWGP Heavyweight Champion… and Sanada just beat him clean.

HIROOKI GOTO(1) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(0) (w/Gedo)-
Okada wins clean in twenty minutes with the Rainmaker.

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 5

HIROSHI TANAHASHI(0) vs. TAMA TONGA(0)-
Tama Tonga beats Tanahashi clean in seventeen minutes. Yes, you read that correctly. TAMA TONGA BEATS TANAHASHI CLEAN. Surely Tanahashi can sink no lower.

SANADA(4) vs. TOMOHIRO ISHII(0)-
Sanada picks up a clean win over another top New Japan star.

BAD LUCK FALE(3) vs. NAOMICHI MARUFUJI (2)-
Fale wins clean in fourteen minutes, handing Marufuji another setback after his big win on opening night.

HIROOKI GOTO(1) vs. HIROYOSHI TENZAN(4) (w/Satoshi Kojima)-
Goto fights hard, but Tenzan wins clean via moonsault in fifteen minutes. Tenzan is off to a great start in his quest to win one last G1 before his career is over.

TOGI MAKABE(4) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(2) (2/Gedo)-
More Makabe smash! Makabe beat Tanahashi at the last show, and tonight he beats the IWGP Heavyweight Champion in twenty minutes.

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 7
HIROSHI TANAHASHI(0) vs. HIROOKI GOTO(1)-
Tanahashi manages to pick up his first point out of the match, as these two go to a thirty minute time limit draw. The story of the match is all about Tanahashi keeping his injured shoulder away from Goto.

TOMOHIRO ISHII(0) vs. NAOMICHI MARUFUJI(2)-
Ishii finally gets on the board with a win over Marufuji in eighteen minutes

TAMA TONGA(2) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(4) (w/Gedo)-
Okada wins clean with the Rainmaker in six minutes, rebounding from his loss at the last show to dominate the guy who defeated his arch-rival Tanahashi at the previous show.

BAD LUCK FALE(5) vs. SANADA(6)
Fale puts a stop to Sanada’s run, winning clean in fifteen minutes.

TOGI MAKABE(6) vs. HIROYOSHI TENZAN(6) (w/Satoshi Kojima)-
Tonight’s main event is a battle between the two men off to the best starts so far in the tournament… and the result is MORE MAKABE SMASH! Makabe dominates early on. Tenzan makes a comeback but misses the moonsault, and it’s all Makabe from there. He lariats the crap out of Tenzan, making him look like the broken-down old man he has looked like for the past few years. Just to put the exclamation point on it, Makabe officially wins the match by knockout after a HUGE lariat.

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 9
NAOMICHI MARUFUJI(2) vs. TAMA TONGA(2)-
Marufuji gets back on the right track with the clean win here in thirteen minutes.

TOMOHIRO ISHII(2) vs. HIROOKI GOTO(2)-
Goto picks up his first proper win of the tournament, defeating Ishii with the GTR in eighteen minutes.

BAD LUCK FALE(7) vs. HIROSHI TANAHASHI(1)-
Fale dominates the match, but Tanahashi manages to pick up his first win by reversing an attempted Bad Luck Fall into a backslide.

TOGI MAKABE(8) vs. SANADA(6)-
Sanada is finally able to put a stop to Makabe’s perfect record, but he needs to resort to cheating and aid from his Ingobernables stablemates to do so.

HIROYOSHI TENZAN(6) (w/Satoshi Kojima) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(6) (w/Gedo)-
Okada wins clean in fifteen minutes, moving into a tie with Makabe and Sanada on top of the leader-board and handing Tenzan his second straight loss.

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 11
HIROOKI GOTO(4) vs. TAMA TONGA(2)-
Goto picks up another win with the GTR.

TOMOHIRO ISHII(2) vs. HIROSHI TANAHASHI(3)-
They have a very hard-fought match, with Tanahashi picking up the win clean in the middle of the ring after a Slingblade and a High Fly Flow in twenty-five minutes.

NAOMICHI MARUFUJI(4) vs. HIROYOSHI TENZAN(6) (w/Satoshi Kojima)-
Marufuji picks up another win. Tenzan started hot, but seems to have hit a wall, as he is now down to having an even record, and is stuck in the middle of the pack and seems to be heading downwards.

TOGI MAKABE(8) vs. BAD LUCK FALE(7)-
Fale wins the hoss-fight via Bad Luck Fall, handing Makabe his first clean loss of the tournament (and second loss overall).

SANADA(8) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(8) (w/Gedo)-
The Ingobernables involve themselves in the match but CHAOS fights them off. Okada eventually wins clean in twenty minutes with the Rainmaker.

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 13
TAMA TONGA(2) vs. TOMOHIRO ISHII(2)-
In the battle of the bottom, Tonga picks up the upset victory via roll-up.

TOGI MAKABE(8) vs. NAOMICHI MARUFUJI(6)-
Marufuji continues his turn-around with a win while Makabe continues his unfortunate turnaround with another loss.

HIROOKI GOTO(6) vs. SANADA(8)-
Goto also continues his turnaround with another win.

BAD LUCK FALE(9) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(10) (w/Gedo)-
Okada picks up the clean win in a match to determine who will end the night on top of the leader-board.

HIROSHI TANAHASHI(5) vs. HIROYOSHI TENZAN(6) (w/Satoshi Kojima)-
Tanahashi’s shoulder seemed to be fine last night, but tonight Tenzan works it over with the Anaconda Vise to get a very important victory in twenty-eight minutes.

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 15
SANADA(8) vs. TAMA TONGA(4)-
Los Ingobernables show up to help Sanada, Bullet Club shows up to help Tama Tonga. Sanada wins.

HIROOKI GOTO(8) vs. TOGI MAKABE(8)-
Goto started off without any wins in the first four days, but is now on a three-day winning streak. Makabe, on the other hand, won his first four matches but is now on a three-day losing streak. Those streaks continue as Goto picks up the win.

HIROSHI TANAHASHI(5) vs. NAOMICHI MARUFUJI(8)-
Marufuji wins clean working over Tanahashi’s injured shoulder.

BAD LUCK FALE(9) vs. HIROYOSHI TENZAN(8) (w/Satoshi Kojima)-
Tenzan wins clean to keep his hopes on the final day alive.
TOMOHIRO ISHII(2) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(10) (w/Gedo)-
Ishii picks up the upset win over the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

FINAL DAY scenarios:

GOTO WINS IF: He wins AND Tenzan loses or draws AND Okada loses or draws

TENZAN WINS IF: He wins AND Okada loses or draws AND Marufuji loses or draws,
OR if he, Sanada, Goto, and Marufuji all draw, Okada loses, and Fale wins

OKADA WINS IF: He wins AND Marufuji loses or draws

MARUFUJI WINS IF: He wins AND Sanada loses or draws

TIE-SCENARIOS:
If Marufuji, Goto, Tenzan, Sanada, and Okada all draw, Okada wins because he has the best record against the field (3-1)
If Marufuji, Sanada, and Okada all win, they will have a three-way match to break the tie (all are 1-1 against the field)
If Marufuji, Goto, Sanda, and Tenzan all draw and Okada loses and Fale loses or draws, there will be a four-way match to break the tie (all are 1-1-1 against the field).

G1 CLIMAX 26: DAY 15
TOMOHIRO ISHII(4) vs. TOGI MAKABE(8)-
Ishii follows his victory over the IWGP Heavyweight Champion up with another big win. Makabe closes out the tournament on five-match losing streak despite starting 4-0.

BAD LUCK FALE(9) vs. TAMA TONGA(4)-
Fale wins clean to keep his only theoretical hope of winning (which involves at least one or two injuries) alive.

HIROOKI GOTO(10) vs. NAOMICHI MARUFUJI(10)-
Goto wins clean, keeping his hopes of winning the tournament alive.

HIROYOSHI TENZAN(10) (w/Satoshi Kojima) vs. SANADA(10) (w/Los Ingobernables de Japon)
The Ingobernables try to interfere but they are fought off by not only Kojima, but also his NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship partners Matt Sydal and Ricochet. Tenzan gets the win, keeping his hopes alive and crushing those of Goto.

HIROSHI TANAHASHI(5) vs. KAZUCHIKA OKADA(10) (w/Gedo)-
Okada needs a win in order to win the tournament. He aggressively goes after Tanahashi the whole match. Despite being injured and banged up, Tanahashi manages to hold out for a draw, meaning that HIROYOSHI TENZAN WINS BLOCK A!

The G1 finals and the angles and matches that come out of this will hopefully be up by the middle of the week.

G1 CLIMAX BRIEFCASE MATCH: Hiroyoshi Tenzan(c) (w/Satoshi Kojima) vs. Kauzchika Okada (w/Gedo)-
We play this up as Okada going for the briefcase so he can cash it in for the IWGP Intercontinental Title instead (or, conversely, if Tenzan wins, he will earn a shot for the IWGP Heavyweight Title without needing to use his briefcase so he can use the briefcase for either an IC Title shot or for a second chance at the IWGP Heavyweight Title if he fails the first time. As it turns out, none of that really matters because they go to a thirty-minute draw.

NEVER OPENWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Katsuyori Shibata(c) vs. Tomoaki Honma-
Shibata wins clean to retain. This goes in the main event spot just in case Tenzan going for 30 minutes doesn’t work as well as I hope it will.

IWGP HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Kazuchika Okada(c) (w/Gedo) vs. Tomohiro Ishii-
Okada wins clean to retain.

IN THE G1 TAG LEAGUE:
The only relevant thing that happens in our story is that Naito & EVIL go to a draw against Ten-Koji, with Naito unable to put Tenzan away, despite his best attempts.

G1 TAG LEAGUE FINALS:
Nothing relevant to our story happens here, aside from Kojima, Sydal, & Ricochet losing the six-man tag titles to… someone. Preferably a trio they haven’t faced before, possibly a contingent from ROH, CMLL, or NOAH (ROH seems most likely, as the post-Final Battle TV tapings are scheduled for Dec. 4, so pretty much anyone from ROH should be available).
Also, Tanahashi picks up a singles win, and is announced as #1 contender for the IWGP Intercontinental Title.

WRESTLEKINGDOM 11:
NEVER OPENWEIGHT SIX-MAN TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Team Outsider Champions(c) vs. Team New Japan (Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma, & Yoshitatsu)-

NEW YEAR DASH 2017:
Tanahashi wrestles surprisingly early on the card and picks up the win. He then cuts a promo about the disappointing year he had in 2016 but vows that 2017 will not be the same.

TEN-KOJI vs. LOS INGOBERNABLES DE JAPON (Tetsuya Naito & BUSHI) (w/EVIL & Sanada)-
Tenzan makes BUSHI tap, then challenges Naito to a title match. Naito refuses, saying he doesn’t need to face an old man who he already beat.

NEW BEGINNING 2017, FIRST SHOW:
Tanahashi picks up a win.
Tenzan picks up a win.
Naito def. winner of WrestleKingdom Battle Royale to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Title. After the match we get another angle with Tenzan challenging Naito to a match but Naito saying he doesn’t have to face him.

NEW BEGINNING 2017, SECOND SHOW:
Tenzan almost taps Naito in a tag match but time expires. Tenzan is now desperate for a title shot and offers to put his career on the line in exchange for a title shot at the Anniversary Show.

NEW JAPAN ANNIVERSARY SHOW:
TITLE VS. CAREER: Tetsuya Naito(c) vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan-
Naito wins clean, and Tenzan gets the big retirement celebration.

WHERE WE GO FROM HERE:
In the New Japan Cup, Okada beats Tanahashi in the finals. Naito beats Okada at Invasion Attack to retain in some way that results in a cage match at Dominion where we blow this off.
In the G1, Tanahashi redeems himself for his performance last year. Since this year is a new beginning for him, he decides he will be the first person to use the G1 briefcase to challenge for the IC Title at WrestleKingdom (also, he isn’t allowed to challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Title due to last year’s WrestleKingdom stips. The IC Title will then become “Tanahashi’s belt” the same way it used to be “Nakamura’s belt” to elevate that title once again.
Meanwhile, we build up Kojima really hard for a shot at Naito at WrestleKingdom, in which Tenzan will make his first post-retirement appearance by being in Kojima’s corner. I’d probably have Kojima win the belt just to give Tenzan some sort of happy ending, with Kojima dropping it to either Naito, Shibata or Omega at Invasion Attack.
