BRM Reviews the 11/30/2020 Raw

Post by Big Red Machine » Nov 30th, '20, 22:30

A MOMENT OF BLISS WITH SPECIAL GUEST RANDY ORTON- terrible
The only decent part of this was Randy reminding us all that he found Bray Wyatt’s weakness a few years ago. If case you don’t remember, that weakness was a ridiculous ass-pull on the part of Creative, and I’m sure that if Randy find’s The Fiend’s weakness, it will be just as out of nowhere.
Randy said he thought that Alexa might be The Fiend’s weakness, which makes me wonder why he’s standing here talking to her instead of doing something terrible to her. The Fiend’s magic happened and suddenly The Fiend is in the ring and Alexa is in Randy’s arms. Instead of throwing her down, he calmly hands her to The Fiend and leaves. If I was running a Creative team and someone handed me a segment this pointless, they would have been fired on the spot.

SYMPHONY OF DESTRUCTION MATCH: Jeff Hardy vs. “The Drifter” Elias Sampson- 6.75/10
Tom Phillips claimed that this match would be “unlike anything you’ve ever seen before,” which is an utterly ridiculous thing to say when it’s not even the first time they’ve used this stupid name for a gimmick match! For those who don’t remember the previous two, it’s no DQs and falls count anywhere, but what makes it different from your standard Falls Count Anywhere match is that the wrestlers are provided with musical instruments to use as themed weapons, because giving violence a f*cking theme is definitely the way to make it feel cooler.
The show was a solid twenty minutes in when the bell rang for this match, because wasting the first ninth of your run-time on absolutely nothing is a great way to make people think the rest of the show is going to be worth watching.
A few minutes into our big, violent, blow-off match… we get comedy. Dumbass R-Truth was hiding in a piano. And, of course, mere moments after he was revealed, all of the 24/7 geeks ran out after him. This happened just so Drew Gulak and Lucha House Party could be beaten up for no reason, by both Jeff and The Drifter. Later, Byron Saxton would tell us that he “didn’t expect to see a 24/7 Championship chase right in the middle of a match!” This happens approximately once every three weeks. F*ck this company.
Elias using the guitar picks to slice Jeff’s head open was clever. I will give them that. Then they killed any goodwill I had with the dumb electrocution spot, because they will NEVER learn their lesson. Jeff hit his head on the steps coming down on the Swanton on the finish. I can’t imagine that’s not a concussion.
How much money do you think they wasted on the musical instruments for this thing? It has to be well over $1,000, right?

MATT RIDDLE & KEITH LEE BACKSTAGE- terrible
Riddle was annoying and yammered on, to the point where Lee just walked away.

RETRIBUTION PROMO- G-d bless these guys for trying so hard despite this so clearly being a lost cause.

RICOCHET vs. SLAPJACK (w/Mustafa Ali)- 4.5/10
Stuff happened. Part of that stuff involved Dana Brooke coming out of the crowd to slap Mustafa Ali. I have no idea why. Interference allowed Slapjack to win.

They’re treating this Drew McIntyre interview like it’s this huge deal and showing recaps of Drew’s year, but it doesn’t feel like it’s a big deal at all.

MIZ TV WITH SPECIAL GUEST SHEAMUS- bad
Miz and Morrison tried to get Sheamus to turn on Drew tonight so Miz could cash in Money in the Bank (or, as he said “Money in the Brank”). This would have been fine, but they were SOOOOO annoying getting there that it was embarrassing. Miz said Sheamus was an embarrassment so Sheamus started a fight. Dumbass Sheamus proceeded to get his butt kicked two-on-one. That’s what happens when you start a fight when you’re down two on one and when one of those two has a weapon.

ASUKA & LANA BACKSTAGE- nothing happened. Then an interviewer showed up and Lana what their strategy would be so that they could beat the tag champs two weeks in a row. Yes, they beat the tag champs last week, but instead of a title match, we’re just doing the non-title match against because… umm… it’s not time for the PPV yet, I guess?

NIA JAX & SHAYNA BASZLER INTERVIEW- fine
Nia says that last week’s win was a fluke. The two them start bickering about whose fault the loss was, then they bury Lana.

ASUKA & LANA vs. NIA JAX & SHAYNA BASZLER- 3.5/10
Lana got her ass kicked forever. She made the tag to Asuka, who ran wild until she did a double-down with Baszler. Lana tagger herself in and looked so proud of herself as she climbed to the top rope for a diving crossbody… and, of course, Shayna caught her and locked in the Kirafuta Clutch. Fortunately for Lana, Asuka was able to break free of Jax and run into the ring and kick Baszler in the head, allowing Lana to pin her for the win. So Lana pins Baszler despite doing absolutely nothing effective. So Lana is a loser, and Baszler is a loser because she told us that getting pinned by Lana would be the ultimate humiliation, and Baszler just got pinned by Lana.

DREW MCINTYRE & SHEAMUS BACKSTAGE- bad
Drew was a total asshole, laughing at his friend who just got his ass kicked. Sheamus pointed out that Drew did not come out to help him. Drew deserves to get turned on at this point.

XAVIER WOODS (w/Kofi Kingston) vs. CEDRIC ALEXANDER (w/the Hurt Business)- 6.5/10
New Day were very annoying in recapping their non-losses to the Hurt Business. The Hurt Business cut fine promos on them.
At least the match was good. Cedric won cleanly.

MATT RIDDLE & AJ STYLES (& AJ’S LARGE FRIEND) BACKSTAGE- bad
Once again, they have made Matt Riddle insufferable.

Tom Phillips tried to convince me that this would be an “interesting night” for Drew because not only would he have to pay attention to this #1 contendership match, but he also had his own match to worry about. So what? What’s so interesting about that? That’s not even really uncommon.

“SUDDEN DEATH TRIPLE THREAT MATCH FOR A WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH AT TLC: Keith Lee vs. Matt Riddle vs. AJ Styles (w/Omos)- 8.25/10
Aren’t all Triple Threat matches “sudden death” unless otherwise stipulated? Also, why is this not the main event?!
Awesome match. AJ won.

CHARLY CARUSO INTERVIEWS THE MIZ & JOHN MORRISON- terrible
Miz and Morrison were “change the channel” level annoying.

DANA BROOKE vs. RECKONING- 2/10
We got a recap package to remind us that there is an actual issue here (Reckoning attacked Dana two weeks ago and caused her to be removed from the Survivor Series team).
This is Reckoning’s in-ring debut on Raw… and she got her entrance cut. She and Ali did get to cut a good in-set promo. Being a member of Retribution, of course Reckoning lost. Ali yelled at her for losing.

AJ STYLES, OMOS, JOHN MORRISON, & THE MIZ BACKSTAGE- meh
AJ says he’ll help Miz cash in on Drew because he thinks Miz will be an easier opponent.

MATT RIDDLE PITCHES TO MVP- fine
Okay… I laughed at Riddle pitching a gardening service where he and his friends will come to your house and leave it “weedless.”
MVP pie-faces Riddle so Riddle gets serious, but Lashley attacks him from behind and beats him up.

KEITH LEE WARNS SHEAMUS NOT TO TURN ON DREW- Sheamus responded with the appropriate indignant sarcasm.

CHARLY CARUSO INTERVIEWS DREW MCINTYRE- AWESOME!
He’s wearing his kilt and carrying his sword now. He cut awesome promos on Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, and The Miz.

JOHN MORRISON & THE MIZ vs. DREW MCINTYRE & SHEAMUS- 6.5/10
AJ Styles was on commentary for this match and… yup! He caused a DQ. Drew got beaten up (Sheamus had already been disposed of) and Miz went to cash in but Drew recovered before the bell so it didn’t count. Drew beat up Miz and Morrison by himself, and Omos pulled AJ out of the ring so he didn’t have to fight Drew. In other words, THE STORY DID NOT MOVE FORWARD IN ANY WAY. F*ck this company.

Thus ends another frustrating episode of Raw. This was one awesome promo and one awesome match, surrounded by two and a half hours of mostly crap.

So Dana Brooke....

Will single-handedly bring down retribution?!?!?

Literally gtfoh right now and just let Mia Yim do Mia Yim things and never speak of this match again.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.

This is solid policy regarding all of Retribution, really.

I've said it before but this just further makes it seem like this was all just a sloppy rush job, to carelessly end up getting these people on main roster television as soon as possible. And Mustafa Ali? "Why not, not really doing a whole lot and people won't expect it."
When they come, they'll come at what you love.
