BRM Reviews the 10/3/2016 Raw

The women are getting the main event spot, which probably means title change (or possibly a run-in and a Bayley heel turn, but I’d bet the house on the former, and probably wouldn’t even bet Monopoly money on the ladder).

OPENING SEGMENT- almost hilarious in much it is the opposite of what WWE wants.
Roman comes out to both get booed and talk about his “bloodline.” He says he is the first person in the family to win the US Title, which isn’t true: Jimmy Snuka did it (and yes, WWE considers the Snukas part of the family because that was the reason given for Tamina joining Naomi after her heel turn last spring).
Lana came out to “negotiate” with Roman about the rematch for the US Title that her husband Rusev deserves. Roman was a huge douchebag to her until she cut a promo on him ripping him a new one for having “respect” for the concept of family and essentially accusing him of talking about being proud of his family but not valuing it. This was an awesome babyface promo by Lana. Unfortunately, she is supposed to be the heel. And Vince wonder why he can’t get Roman over as a babyface.
As the segment went on, Lana’s performance went down just a little bit while Roman acted exponentially more douchebaggy. Eventually Rusev could take no more, so he came out and they had a brawl, which Rusev won, and he stole the title belt to boot. Cole accidentally said “fans” instead of “WWE Universe™.”
Wait. Never mind. Rusev didn’t win the brawl. As Rusev was celebrating his win on the stage, Roman attacked him from behind and laid him out. You know… because the heel needs to get his heat to build to the PPV. Speaking of the PPV, Roman said he would give Rusev his rematch in a Hell in a Cell match, because this feud totally deserves that and we’re not only doing this because that’s the name of the next PPV. All of the build for this feels like it should lead to a Falls Count Anywhere match, not Hell in a Cell.

TJ PERKINS vs. BRIAN KENDRICK- 6.5/10
For some reason TJP made his entrance first. In other non-traditional occurrences, Michael Cole said the word “wrestling” a whole bunch of times. Vince is gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed.
I don’t know why, but I was certain this was a title match. The match was good, but that vicious spot with the fingers in the turnbuckle wound up never mattering. That was a big waste of potential.

MICHAEL COLE’S SIT-DOWN INTERVIEW WITH SETH ROLLINS- good

BRAUN STROWMAN vs. CHASE SILVER- squash.
SIGN THIS JOBBER NOW! That was one hell of a promo.

BRAUN STROWMAN PROMO- holy f*ck! That was GREAT!

SASHA & BAYLEY BACKSTAGE- very good. Maybe that Bayley heel is worth betting some Monopoly money on.

KEVIN OWENS & CHRIS JERICHO PROMO- interesting potential seeds are sewn for some dissension to possibly pay off later. This transitioned into a…

JERICHO, OWENS & NEW DAY SEGMENT- I generally hate the comedic direction we get from all of these guys except for Owens, but I thought this segment was GREAT! So much fun.

SHEAMUS & CESARO ARRIVE AT THE ARENA BICKERING- if they don’t like each other so much, why are they travelling together?

TITUS O’NEIL vs. SAMI ZAYN- 2.25/1010
Titus cut an inset promo informing us that he has a wacky new gimmick. Did he and Darren Young ever have a final blow-off? Anyway, this new gimmick that he has a brand: The Titus Brand. That’s it. That’s all the thought they’ve put into it so far. He lost rather quickly.
Corey Graves came as close as anyone will ever come to referencing PWG on WWE television.

SHEAMUS & CESARO BICKER UNTIL FOLEY SHOWS UP- at least they had a reason for why they rode together: Foley made them do it so that they could bond.

GOLDEN TRUTH vs. GALLOWS & ANDERSON- 3/10
Gallows & Anderson are now so low down on the totem pole that they get their entrance cut and they have to cut their promos on the pre-show and having a competitive match with Golden Truth. The promo was good. Golden Truth’s entrance is now in sing-along form, complete with a bouncing Goldust head.

OWENS, JERICHO, HYDE, & KELSO BACKSTAGE- stupid.

BREAST CANCER STUFF- skipped it. I just sat through a month of Connor’s Cure commercials. I don’t need to sit through more of WWE patting themselves on the back for doing even less and partnering with a bullsh*t charity like Komen. If you want to actually help fight breast cancer, pretty much any other charity is a better choice. Here’s a good list of them: https://www.charitynavigator.org/index. ... overallrtg

CHRIS JERICHO & KEVIN OWENS vs. NEW DAY (w/Kofi Kingston)- 6.75/10
Aston Kutcher & Danny Masterson were on commentary. They were annoying. NO ONE got their entrances shown for this match. What is going on tonight? Rollins distracted Owens so New Day could win. After the match, Rollins nailed Jericho with a Pedigree while Owens watched.

TOM PHILLIPS INTERVIEWS CHARLOTTE & DANA- great promo by Charlotte. Dana was not allowed to talk.

RICH SWANN VIDEO PACKAGE- good

SETH & STEPH BACKSTAGE- HOLY F*CKING SH*T SOMEONE ACTUALLY STOOD UP TO STEPH!

RICH SWANN vs. TONY NESE- 6.5/10
Tony Nese got to cut an inset promo that seemed to be very scripted. The match was FANTASTIC for the time it got, but the wrong guy won.

MIL MASCARAS HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH VIDEO- but… September is over… isn’t it?

LOTS OF SEXY PICTURES OF EMMA- Everyone remember what Stephanie has taught us: “Women are athletes, not objects.” And of course this means that as long as Stephanie’s company treats some of the women like athletes, it’s perfectly okay for them to treat some of the others like objects.
Apparently Emma is getting a new gimmick: “Emmalina.”

CESARO & SHEAMUS vs. TWO MORE JOBBERS- squash.
This was basically the same segment as last week.

CHARLOTTE, BAYLEY, & DANA BACKSTAGE- Charlotte was vicious here. And awesome. Also, the stuff between Bayley and Dana afterwards was great. Bayley REALLY needed that moment of standing up for herself, and doing so in an emphatic way.

WWE RAW WOMEN’S TITLE MATCH: Charlotte(c) vs. Sasha Banks- 8/10
There were one or two spots that could have gone better, but other than that this was another awesome match between these two. The Charlotte-Dana story will probably be continued by Charlotte blaming her loss on Dana’s absence.

A very good episode of Raw.

According to Meltzer, Cole saying "fans" instead of "WWE Universe" was a conscience move and they'll be moving more in that direction. That's good news.

Am I the only one who thinks Emma's new gimmick is basically "Diva from 2010?" Because this reminded me of the way they'd build up Kelly Kelly or Michelle McCool. And also I have no reason to believe that Emma will not make this work, as she's spent her entire WWE career making chicken s*it out of chicken salad, making the most out of what some would consider a demotion to NXT for example/

No. Spent her entire NXT career making chicken sh*t out of chicken salad. Not in WWE.
I kind of agree with you about the "2010 Diva" thing, though.

Why is he still using the pedigree?

Because it's his finisher, and it work. It's not like the move stops working once he no longer has Hunter's favor.

He did it as part of a whole partnership/blah blah with all that shit...he shouldn't be doing it still considering how he now feels about the the guy...

Why not do it if it works?

And if that doesn't work for you, pretend he is "sending Hunter a message" by using his finisher.
