Was the Lesnar - Big Show Ring Collapse Legit?

Post by yourcrapsweak » Mar 27th, '11, 10:29

Dusting off a classic debate.

I think we all remember when Lesnar superplexed Big Show off the top and the ring broke. Here's the video.

Was this legit? Or was it a work?

It was definitely a work... they wouldn't shut up about it afterwards...

Even if it was an accident, how would they NOT stop talking about it?

my point is if something happened that wasn't supposed to according to official script (ala Russo's shoot on HH), there would have been little said til it could be explained... when something goes according to script (this/Joey Styles worked shoot in 2006)... its talked about like other storyline material... which leads me to think this was worked...

On the Big Show dvd, Show implies that it WASN'T a work. I always thought it was, but I'd have to see the entire episode of SD! to tell bc they hit that mat pretty hard a few times before that spot. If it WAS a work, I wonder how they went the entire night without accidentally breaking the ring. If the adjustment was made right before the match, then how did the crowd not notice? I really wonder about thins one, but I'm gonna take Show's word for it and say it was legit.

I call WORK.

1) It's WWE, not an indy show with crappy rings

2) The way it breaks, having only two ring posts (ones shown in the camera BTW) and neither of them shooting out due to the tension in the ring ropes. a simultaneous break of both posts.

3) Show and Lesnar staying down. If they had another ending scheduled, or needed to cover more TV time, they wouldn't have stayed down and would have played it out somehow.

I was thinking that maybe the feat of superplexing the Big Show was spose to be a big enough spot to leave both guys just laying in the ring; but at the same time, I see exactly what you mean. It could easily have been a work; all signs point to work. I just wonder how they pulled it off after 100mins of wrestling without giving it away or ruining the spot.

It could have been improvising. How can you NOT sell this like death?

because there wasn't a single reaction from them, if they we're expecting it, they would at least rolled over to see what had happen.

Cero: I think they figured out quite fast what had happened. Being professionals they know it'd look off if they just rolled over, took a quick look around and then played dead.

hey, if they can roll over to talk to each other and no one notices it, they can roll over to look around. furthermore, they not moving implies that there wasn't a pin finish booked for this match, cuz other wise, who ever was supposed to win would had dragged himself and pin the other.

WORK. If it was real, they would've really been hurt. Wood under the ring ewould've gone through the mat into some skin causing blood & splinters. Or whatever is under the ring now. And in pain, you don't just lay there. You cringe all that.
