Really? That's surprising. The ending (i.e. Ziggler stuff) was great but were you that into the Big Show turn?
I was so caught up in the match that it took my be surprise, actually. That whole match had me buzzing.
Okay. That works then.

Dave's off his f*cking rocker. The more idiotic your selling is, the more Dave likes it. At least where Ishii matches are concerned. At no point in his review did he mention the fact that their selling was inconsistent and their no-selling was just plain stupid. He seems to justify everything to himself because the crowd loved it, but I've seen plenty of crazy weapons matches from ECW and the rip-off deathmatch indies that the crowd went totally nuts for, but Dave would never praise those matches the way he praises these Ishii no-selling sh*tfests. If you want a match that the crowd went nuts for, how about some of those famous WWE and ROH matches that everyone in the world but Dave gives *****, but Dave stubbornly gives ****3/4?
All of Dave's ratings of Ishii matches should just be ignored.

gonna be honest, and i haven't watched it yet, but between Meltzer's 10 and your -5. I'm sure you're both exaggerating for your love/hate of Ishii

Yes. Someone who likes Ishii's "style" more than I do won't rate the match as low, but my point it is that at least I'm consistent. When Tomasso Ciampa does this sh*t in ROH, I hate it there, too. If Dave is going to give matches five stars based on crowd reaction, then there are a whole bunch of matches that he has stubbornly refused to give the full five to that he should go back and give the full five to.

Went back and watched some important/personal favorite AJPW matches (all focused around the "Four Corners" guys), with the intent of actually rating them this time. These are the ones that got a perfect rating.

*Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Jumbo Tsuruta - June 8, 1990
*Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, & Kenta Kobashi vs. Jumbo Tsuruta, Akira Taue, & Masanobu Fuchi - April 20, 1991
*Kenta Kobashi vs. Steve Williams - August 31, 1993
*Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Toshiaki Kawada - June 3, 1994
*Toshiaki Kawada vs. Kenta Kobashi - January 19, 1995
*Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Akira Taue - April 15, 1995
*Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi vs. The Holy Demon Army (Akira Taue & Toshiaki Kawada) - June 9, 1995
*Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Kenta Kobashi - October 31, 1998

I remember seeing this for the first time about six years ago and hating it because it way too much hitting and almost no wrestling, and then getting into an argument on youtube about it. Haven't watched it since. Should probably go back and do so.

Also, while you're watching 90's All Japan stuff, you should check you Williams & Ace vs. Misawa & Akiyama from June 7 1996. I don't think I've ever seen the babyface in peril story told better.

Good match. Exceptionally good, in fact. But, for some reason, not quite perfect.

Also, the Taue/Kawada vs. Misawa/Kobashi match, I love BECAUSE it's so hard-hitting. Tells a story of warriors.

I'm hearing that Sydal vs Ricochet at PWG's Out Of Nowhere is 5Star potential.

I've heard people say similar. I'm planning on watching it later.

Just watched the match. I'd give it 8.75 or a 9 (probably definitely a 9 if I had been watching it spoiler-free).

Think the PWG match but with a lot more intensity. It's like a cross between that match and Roddy vs. Dragon from ROH Vendetta.
