During the most recent edition of "Being the Elite", it was announced that All Elite Wrestling has officially signed Orange Cassidy, the lacksadasical talent who appeared in the Casino Battle Royal at Double or Nothing. Cassidy has been a staple of the Northeastern wrestling scene in recent years:

Hahahahaha! I love Orange Cassidy, and the internet can eat my shit. This is great.
Some men just like to watch the world burn. I am one of them, and it's going to be fun watching the IWC combust over this....

You guys are missing one crucial point. Wrestling traditionalists already don't care for AEW. I think they'd rather have all of the goofs concentrated in one place (well... two places, but WWE's goofs are a different kind of goofs) so that they can only ruin one promotion at a time.

They care more about AEW than actual fans, they want it to fail. See, I couldn't care less if they hire OC at all, but traditionalists will hate that they did.

Pretty much this.
At this point, there's no reason to get mad when they sign another gimmicky indy clown because they'll just sign them all (Joey Ryan is the only exception, because his gimmick is unusable for TV), not realizing that they won't bring any more pair of eyeballs than the previous idiot they signed. Also I love the double standard of people jerking off to AEW signing all that indy trash, but WWE signing them is the reincarnation of the devil and THEY'RE KILLING THE INDIES!!!

remind me when the UK scene thrives again, AEW hasn't killed anything yet.

The UK scene is very much the same issue ROH had with NJPW/BC/Elite. Instead of just moving on or at least using the newly-signed WWE UK talent (and ZSJ) in a way that doesn't hurt their promotions/current talent, they just kept booking them on top and made what is supposed to be the next wave look like shit because everything was about those guys. They would have taken a hit sure, but most of them went for the easy short-term fix instead of rebuilding for the long term.

Your examples are extreme, but there's a big difference.
-WWE signing marquis indy names that they don't need, won't use, and only want so nobody else has them is one thing.
-AEW signing anyone available that has a little name value/recognition is just common sense to strengthen the brand.

Exactly this. He's been the example, after Joey Ryan of course, of "The Problem With Wrestling These Days"... but I, along with a lot of other people, happen to really like him. More so, it's incredibly entertaining to watch the internet meltdown over guys they have no idea how AEW is going to use.
The Orange Cassidy thing takes the cake for me though, because unlike Janella or Stunt or whoever, Cassidy is great worker AND a great character-worker who's got a ton of upside if developed correctly. Instead of seeing it like that, we get "Bleh... first Janella, they got a guy that thinks he's a dinosaur, they hired that little boy, next thing you know they'll be getting that dude with his hands in his pockets... that's not what people want. I give them 12 months before they go out of business."

This...Cameron Grimes...is one of the worst ones lately. It's not even so much the slimness...the fuzzy dirty lookin' beard and hair....
WHO IS HE? BRUISER BRODY JR? RIP.
not that far off, his indie nickname was 'The Carolina Caveman'
Yeah...so I've heard. THAT'S Trevor Lee from your....WHATEVER-TF they're calling TNA now???

Takes me back to my point in another topic.
AEW is filling up with bullshit "wrestlers" who do bad gimmicks, bullshit and simultaneously somehow manage to extort money from it.
To quote Jim Cornette... "outlaw, fake comedy play-rassler bullshit" he goes right there in the pack next to Havoc, Allin probably Joey Ryan and Mr "Blow-Up-Doll" himself Kenny Omega. Phoney bullshit that I have no interest in watching.

You haven't seen much Darby Allin if you're lumping him in that group. Watch his EVOLVE stuff.

I'm lumping him into that group because of his AEW stuff exclusively. I've seen some of his EVOLVE stuff now and I agree he's fine BUT he's not painted the same in AEW and I'm looking at it as a person who may tune in as a first time viewer with no idea who Darby Allin is and immediately he looks a goof and not at all like someone who'd grip me to watch a few minutes more and thereby I'd be a viewer lost.
AEW cannot expect to run and last exclusively on pandering to their current niche fanbase. They'll need to find ways to grab the attention of other viewers also and as a first time viewer I shouldn't be expected to have to go back and do hours of research or watch matches from other companies to legitimise the wrestler being promoted. Tell me who he is, what his story is and then allow his work to tell me whether I like him or not.

I'm on the fence. Part of me says your 100% right, but the other part says everything they've done up until this point has been exclusively pandering to their current niche fanbase and they'll figure out a way to get everyone up to speed without watching 12 hours of Being The Elite when TV starts.
