So yeah, this ROH/NJPW relationship is pretty much dead at this point.

I think you're jumping to a premature conclusion there.

Am I really? It's been a slow but steady retreat with Okada and Tanahashi barely coming back since 2017 and NJPW sending lesser and lesser stars for the ROH tours despite being treated like gods since day 1 (the biggest star they had this year was NAGATA and yes, I get that the G1 Supercard was a mere month earlier, but why even do the tour then?), although you have to wonder how much is NJPW trying to keep their biggest stars as special attractions for the US market and how much is those being turned off working for ROH when even a gaijin midcarder is like "I hate being here".

Since the MSG show, I can definitely see NJPW think that they can just run shows by themselves even in ROH's backyard, and easily outdraw them apparently. I mean, what could New Japan gain from working (with) ROH anymore? They undeniably put themselves over as the bigger player by beating ROH "stars" over and over for five years, they obviously can draw alone without the need to taint the shows with the inferior ROH brand and wrestlers, and the Elite isn't there anymore.

You can ask the same question for ROH frankly. Old and/or boring midcarders aren't gonna move the needle much if at all and the Bullet Club is just the Oceania Club at this point and no one seems to care anymore, so they might as well start rebuilding what they destroyed for five years with a smile on their face.
