Ahead of the show taking place this Saturday, AEW has announced a stipulation for one of the matches at Fyter Fest.

Jon Moxley vs. Joey Janela at Fyter Fest will now be a non-sanctioned match. The stipulation was revealed in a video that AEW posted today.

"Due to both competitors' propensity for violence and the statements coming from both camps, AEW has decided to strip this match of all rules," AEW announced. "This is a non-sanctioned match."

Following his appearance at Double or Nothing, this will be Moxley's AEW in-ring debut. Janela took part in the Casino Battle Royale on the Double or Nothing pre-show.

The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida is hosting Double or Nothing on Saturday. It will air for free on B/R Live in the United States and Canada and will be available to purchase via Fite TV elsewhere. The pre-show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time, with the main card starting at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.

The updated card for Fyter Fest is listed below:

The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) & Kenny Omega vs. The Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) & Laredo Kid
Jon Moxley vs. Joey Janela in a non-sanctioned match
Cody Rhodes vs. Darby Allin
Hangman Page vs. MJF vs. Jimmy Havoc vs. Jungle Boy
Nyla Rose vs. Riho vs. Yuka Sakazaki
Christopher Daniels vs. CIMA
Best Friends (Trent Barreta & Chuck Taylor) vs. SoCal Uncensored (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) vs. Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) (winning team advances to All Out for a shot at a first-round bye in AEW's Tag Team title tournament) (pre-show)
CEO Fighting Game Championships organizer Alex Jebailey vs. AEW's Michael Nakazawa in a hardcore match (pre-show)

THAT'S NOT WHAT "NON-SANCTIONED" MEANS! It's just a f*cking no DQs match, or a street fight or whatever so just call it that.

I actually like this. If wins and losses matter, I don't think hardcore matches should count. "Non-Sanctioned" takes care of that, and I think adds another layer of unpredictability to the billing.

Why shouldn't hardcore matches count? They're matches and the promotion is booking them. I could see an argument for this in a highly-regimented promotion like early EVOLVE, but even then I think it falls short. The best argument you can construct is that "we're only counting matches with standard rules," but in that case I'd argue that the hardcore match is still sanctioned by the promotion. And we have gotten no indication from AEW that they intend to have things so regimented.

I guess it depends on what they're counting toward. I do not think you are worthy of a traditional title shot for winning a match without rules, unless the actual title match itself does not have any. But I'm also still not over Jericho having to beat Kenny Omega while Hangman gets his opportunity through luck.

I'm just saying, if you're going to take a platform of "wins and losses matter", then there should be some sort of structure to that.. you know, rules and stuff. I like the idea of AEW saying, "Hey... all things considered, we can see this thing is going to go off the rails no matter what and not what we consider championship competition. Have at it boys, but we're turning our backs."

It's still booked, it's still promoted, and now it's got a "nothing to lose but pride" vibe to it.

I get what you're saying, but I think that "nothing to lose but pride" inherently takes away from the idea of wins and losses mattering by making them not matter for this match.
I like the idea of wins and losses mattering having structure, but I think you need to leave yourself wiggle room. I think it's telling that the only promotion in the world that has managed to create and stick to a structure with something like this is CHIKARA, which is run by a self-admitted obsessive compulsive and is notable for its (commendably) extreme fealty to its kayfabe history.
Injuries might pop up, or a problem with a building that messes up your timetable or any other number of things. You just need the wiggle room. I think the big lesson of early EVOLVE is that even if you're trying to do a record-based or extremely real-sports type of thing, you can't be too rigid with it.

Personally, I think that just a string of recent wins (and few if any losses) should be all that fans need to see a competitors as being kayfabe worthy of a title shot, but if you want to have structure to it I think the best way to go is either CHIKARA's three points system (which is essentially just winning three falls in a row across any number of matches, without losing after you have done so), or ROH's old Pick 6, where you had a group of six guys ranked 1-6 and no one else could challenge for the world title unless he earned it some other way (like winning a tournament for a world title shot) and if anyone in the Pick 6 lost the person who beat him would get his number and everyone else moved down a spot, and once you got your title match you would vacate your spot and management would fill it with a match. The key advantage that both of those systems have (and that any system needs to have in order to work, IMO) is that the results of the matches have effects that it is easy for fans to understand and keep track of (and thus they give undercard matches meaning that they would not otherwise have).
