WWE is debuting a new name for Raw's July pay-per-view, and Brock Lesnar is set to defend the Universal Championship on the show.

A video released by the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on Twitter and Facebook today brought the announcement that the building will be hosting a PPV named "Great Balls of Fire" on July 9th. It was previously rumored that the show would be called "Bad Blood."

The announcement also confirmed that Brock Lesnar is set to defend the Universal title on the PPV. Lesnar has yet to defend the title since winning it from Goldberg at WrestleMania 33, though a program with Braun Strowman was established on the post-Mania episode of Raw.

Tickets for the show go on sale to the general public on May 5th at 10 a.m. local time. There will be a pre-sale the day before that, with tickets also going on sale at 10 a.m.

Great Balls of Fire? Goodness gracious!

You do know that April Fool's Day is the first of the month, not the twenty-eighth, right?

I've been racking my brain for something that must have come close.

But nothing does.

Roadblock: End of the Line is the closest one that comes to my mind, and only because they added that stupid second part.

Wow. Seriously? THAT's what they're naming a new PPV? I'm pretty optimistic about most things WWE do, even on things so many people hate on nowadays (except James Ellesworthless. Fuck him), but this is definitely something I don't think I can get behind. Worst PPV name I've heard of. Sounds like something they would've come up with in '97.

apparently they changed the name from Bad Blood to this because they didn't want the association with Pillman's death to come up, so instead we're going with venereal diseases

1. That makes no sense because they had "Bad Blood" shows in 2003 and 2004.
2. Even if that is the idea, then they still should have been able to come up with a PPV name that isn't so atrocious.

I've come to the conclusion that a tagline can only bring down a PPV name (the worst examples were probably Cornette's stuff in ROH).

You almost can't call a show "Great Balls of Fire" if you aren't going to use the song.

This is true. Tag lines do kill it.

"In your house: Over the Edge"

Over The Edge of what? Doesn't even make sense.

That one doesn't bug me so much. "Over the edge" as "been pushed over the edge" like an expression for going crazy.

I just think it's the combination of the two that always bugged me.

I really hope there's no Bray Wyatt involvement with this though. His nonsense he would try to spin from the title...
