BRM Reviews th 9/18/1995 Nitro (bad)

THE GIANT & THE TASKMASTER SHOW UP IN AN AMBULANCE- they were making fun of the fact that Hulk Hogan left last night’s Fall Brawl PPV in an ambulance because of the Giant. Giant then cut a great promo.

The American Males came out to the ring for a match against the Blue Bloods, but Harlem Heat assaulted the Blue Bloods. Booker T then cut a heel promo saying that they were going to randomly defend the title belts against this team of babyfaces. With the way Harlem Heat were acting, you’d think they had been the ones screwed out of the tag titles last night. Anyway, we got a...

WCW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Harlem Heat(c) (w/Sister Sherri) vs. The American Males (Scott Riggs & Marcus Alexander Bagwell)- DUD!
Riggs and Bagwell were both wearing mostly black outfits with a tiny bit of white on them. I guess “American Males” was just supposed to be a factual statement rather than having anything to do with a gimmick.
Harlem Heat pretty much kicked the American Males’ asses all over the place. Sherri was going to help them cheat, but Colonel Robert Parker came out and Sherri made out with him instead. Bagwell then counted a pumphandle slam attempt from Booker T into a crossbody and got the win. So our new tag team champions are total chumps, and I now feel sorry for the heels (who also came across like badasses with cool moves, as opposed to the suspender-wearing dorks that were Riggs and Bagwell). This is the total opposite of what is supposed to happen.
The announcers mentioned that WCW Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel wasn’t in the building so it is entirely possible that this decision will be reversed and rendered meaningless when he shows up.

RANDY SAVAGE SLIM-JIM COMMERCIAL!

RIC FLAIR PROMO- awesome. He had no problem feuding with Arn, but he’s pissed now because Arn brought Brian Pillman into their feud.

MR. WONDERFUL vs. JOHNNY B. BADD- 2.75/10
They were having a fine little match until the finish, in which not only were Johnny’s shoulders CLEARLY up (yes, plural, BOTH of them), but THERE WAS NO WAY THE REF COULD HAVE POSSIBLY SEEN HIS SHOULDERS AS HE WAS MAKING THE COUNT! Not only did this ridiculousness go completely uncommented on, but it means that they have jobbed Johnny out in just a few minutes just twenty-four hours after his big, status-raising match in which he won a shot at the US Title.

FOOTAGE OF THE TASKMASTER ATTACKING RANDY SAVAGE ON THE SET OF BAYWATCH- Savage is bench-pressing while Hasselhoff spots him and the girls are cheering him on. Taskmaster then ran up from behind, apparently knocking The Hoff out with one punch. He shoved the barbell down onto Macho Man’s throat and taunted him. Then he threw sand in his face and punched him a few times. Ric Flair and two other guys made the save, then helped Macho up. Shouldn’t a babyface have been the one to make the save?

MACHO MAN PROMO- wow. Macho is jerk. He is totally ungrateful to Flair for helping him. Then he says he will “destroy” the Taskmaster. Macho says he doesn’t know how his good buddy Hulk Hogan is doing. Then he says Hogan is a bad judge of character, and uses Luger accidentally hitting him from behind as evidence. Mean Gene disputes this, saying that everyone he has asked says they thought it was unintentional. Savage insists that Luger, Sting, and Jimmy Hart are all working for the Dungeon of Doom. He is just completely paranoid, isn’t he?
Lex Luger came out and accused Macho Man of being a hypocrite for condemning him for wanting to be world champion while still helping Hogan. Macho admits that Luger is correct. Wow. I’m beginning to like Macho Man less and less with each passing segment.
Macho still insists that Luger cheap-shotted him during the War Games match. They want to fight each other. I’d like to see that match. When we came back from commercial, Bischoff told us that we missed some slaps being exchanged during the commercial, and that security had only just cleared the ring. I love things like this because they add a nice feel of unscripted-ness to the show.

RECAP OF THE TERRIBLE THINGS THE GIANT DID TO HULK HOGAN LAST NIGHT- Wow. There is SUCH a difference between the laughter-inducing segment where he ran over Hogan’s motorcycle in a monster truck (then laughed evilly while Hogan banged on the door, shouting “what are you doing?!”), and the seriousness of him trying to snap Hogan’s neck on the PPV.

RIC FLAIR vs. “FLYIN’” BRIAN PILLMAN- 4/10
WAY too short. After the match, Flair called out Arn Anderson. When Arn didn’t come out, Flair said that’s okay because he’ll just kick Arn’s ass next week.

This was definitely the worst Nitro of the three so far, but, strangely, it was also the one that felt the most like a normal wrestling show.
