ROH The Experience/Steel City Excellence Hype

Post by Big Red Machine » Jan 18th, '17, 18:04

Steel City Excellence is in Pittsburgh on 2/11
The Experience (possibly the worst name ever) is in Columbus on 2/12

For Pittsburgh
Scurll vs. Dijak for the TV Title
Briscoes, Fish, & Lethal vs. Bullet Club (Cole, Cody, & Bucks)

For Columbus:
Kingdom defend the six-man titles against three ROH stars selected by the crowd
Cody vs. Castle

They're hyping Columbus up as "the most interactive show in ROH history."

It's the other end of the "XYZ Tour" spectrum of names, where you give each show an individual name but you're naming them in advance so the names are so generic that no one remember what happened on which show anyway. If you're going to name each show, there is no reason to not give each show a name that is as individualized/artistic as possible because, quite simply, there is no one who will show up to "ROH The Experience" that wouldn't just show up to "ROH live in Columbus, OH." If you name most of the shows afterwards not only are the names more memorable and thus its easier to remember what happened on which show, but it also makes the shows you name in advance- not just the annual show, but also something that you do every two or three years like Manhattan Mayhem, feel bigger.

This also seems like a good time to plug my recent update to my ROH renaming thread.

Scurll vs Lio Rush signed for The Experience. Fans vote on match stipulation between (1) 2-out-3 falls, submission match, or European rounds match

I'm grudgingly warming up to this name. I kind of get what they're going for with it, but I think there is a word missing.

Columbus is getting Kelly Klein vs. Scarlett Bourdeaux in a "grudge match." The writing in the article on the website for this match is SOOOOOO terrible, and even if it was well-written it would still be bad because it makes no mention of the most recent angle these two did, which happened in October (but they do mention crap that they didn't even put on the VOD that happened months before that).

The Experience now has Cole & Page vs. Lethal & Fish in either No DQs, Falls Count Anywhere, or a Tables match. Time for Page to do another job.
