Nigel McGuinness Out as ROH Matchmaker

Earlier this evening, with heavy hearts, Ring of Honor officials accepted the resignation of ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness.

Speculation surrounding McGuinness’ sudden resignation has begun to boil among ROH officials. While some chastised his leniency toward Bullet Club’s behavior in the summer, others believe that now McGuinness may be under extreme duress from Bullet Club’s Adam Cole for changing the stipulations of the Final Battle main event just days in advance.

One of ROH’s all-time greats, the former ROH World Champion has resigned. ROH management has announced it is forming an executive committee to oversee matchmaking in ROH. We wish Nigel McGuinness the best of luck in his future.

it's hard to say at a moment like this, he could be going to WWE (like everyone else is apparently), he could be replacing Corino in ROH, he could be signing with ITV, he could straight up just getting away from Wrestling, he could be joining Bullet Club, god knows...

UPDATED: PWInsider reports that McGuiness is still with Ring of Honor and his “resignation” is a storyline one, and that McGuiness is still with the company.

According to the side, the move was done in case McGuiness is needed for a commentary role if Steve Corino does leave at the end of the month. It would also make it easier for the company to write him out should he have an offer with WWE, although there’s no word as to whether that’s the case.

Good for Nigel, but bad for ROH. As a competently-booked authority figure, Nigel brought with him an air of ROH credibility. If they want another figurehead commissioner, the only guy who would work that I can think of that is available is Jerry Lynn.
