CHIKARA King of Trios 2010: Night 2 (4/24/2010)- Philadelphia, PA

BRODIE LEE PROMO- good
He’s tired of being overlooked and left out of King of Trios. He issues an open challenge that results in…

BRODIE LEE vs. GRIZZLY REDWOOD- 4/10
This is the most awesome three-minute match you’ll ever see, and it wasn’t three minutes of flips, either.

KING OF TRIOS 2010 QUARTERFINAL MATCH: The Future Is Now (Jigsaw, Helios, & Equinox) vs. Team Big Japan (Daisuke Sekimoto, Yuji Okabayashi, & Kankuro Hoshino)- 8/10
More CHIKARA vs. Big Japan awesomeness. This was awesome trios wrestling the whole way through. That crazy four-person stacked German Superplex was the big highlight of this match, but it was far from the only jaw-dropping (or jaw-rattling) moment.

REY DE VOLADORES FIRST-ROUND ELIMINATION MATCH: Amasis vs. Flip Kendrick vs. Malachai Jackson vs. Matt Cross- 7/10
Lots of great high-flying here in this tournament of high-flyers. This match reminded me why Matt Cross was such a name in the mid-late 2000’s.

TEAM PERROS DEL MAL PROMO- This was all in Spanish, so I don’t know what they said.

KING OF TRIOS 2010 QUARTERFINAL MATCH: Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Claudio Castagnoli, Ares, & Tursas) vs. Team Perros del Mal (Cuije, El Abrije, & El Oriental)- 6.25/10
This was mostly good, but “BDK vs. the plucky mini” got old after a while. They also teased Tursas chucking Cuije into the crowd enough that I began to want to see it just to see how far Tursas could throw him, but then they didn’t deliver on it.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS PROMO- decent
His words were great, but he got a little too pointlessly loud at times.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS vs. HALLOWICKED- 7/10
The story here was Daniels getting frustrated and eventually resulting to shady tactics to get the win. On his way to the back, he asked who CHIKARA would throw at him next.

KING OF TRIOS 2010 QUARTERFINAL MATCH: F.I.S.T. vs. Team Osaka Pro (Atsushi Kotoge, Daisuke Harada, & Tadasuke)- 7.75/10
Team Osaka Pro scores a big upset win with a handful of tights in yet another great, action-packed trios match. More importantly for the long-term, Johnny Gargano decided to come out to ringside and watch this match while wearing a F.I.S.T. t-shirt.

REY DE VOLADORES FIRST-ROUND ELIMINATION MATCH: Cheech Hernandez vs. Ophidian vs. Rich Swann vs. Frightmare- 7/10
More great high-flying stuff. Frightmare and Ophidian had a very good final two.

BDK (TIM DONST, LINCÉ DORADO, & PINKIE SANCHEZ) PROMO- very good
Donst did most of the talking. It was wonderfully obnoxious BDK brag-fest, which set the stage for the story they were going to tell in the main event.

KING OF TRIOS 2010 QUARTERFINAL MATCH: The Colony vs. Bruderschaft des Kreuzes (Lincé Dorado, Pinkie Sanchez, & Tim Donst)- 7.5/10
Green Ant spent a bunch of time as the babyface in peril after being run into the ringpost during a pre-match brawl. The story from there was that the BDK kept squandering that advantage with showboating due to their overconfidence. Solider Ant eventually made Donst eat his words by making him tap out to the CHIKARA Special. While obviously making the Young Lions’ Cup champion tap out to set up a title shot is a big deal, the real significance of this moment was that it was the first time since this angle began back in November that CHIKARA had gotten a real win over the BDK (there was a DQ win when the BDK clearly threw a match away to inflict damage, but that was it), and the crowd reacted to it like their team had just won the Stanley Cup.

This was another awesome show from CHIKARA. It wasn’t quite as good as the previous night, but the action was once again very strong and the hot crowd was on board for everyone, especially the bigger storyline moments. Now that CHIKARA finally has some hope, we’ll see whether those hopes get dashed on the final night.
