BRM Reviews CHIKARA Revelation X (GREAT!)

Post by Big Red Machine » Apr 21st, '17, 17:47

CHIKARA Revelation X (1/25/2009) Philadelphia, PA

ICARUS PROMO- pretty good

THE FUTURE IS NOW (Lince Dorado & Helios) vs. F.I.S.T. (Gran Akuma & Icarus)- 6.75/10
Eight and a half minutes of very good, fast-paced Lucha Libre action with a great babyface/heel dynamic. This was a PERFECT way to open a CHIKARA season. This was a match that you watched and it made you say “I want to watch more CHIKARA right now.”

BRODIE LEE & GRIZZLY REDWOOD vs. INCOHERENCE (Hallowicked & Frightmare)- 5.75/10
A short match, but it did its job well. Brodie used a steel chain on Hallowicked behind the referee’s back on the outside. Soon after that Frightmare rolled Grizzly up for the win. Brodie was very angry t Grizzly for losing.

SARA DEL REY vs. DAIZEE HAZE- 6.25/10
A good, solid wrestling match. Sara and Daizee facing off against each other to start off this season is an interesting (and I’m sure completely purposeful) match considering where they would be at the end of the season.

MIKE QUACKENBUSH & JIGSAW PROMO- very good.
Jigsaw tells us why this particular match is important while Quack brings us up to speed on the story of the selling of the secret reversal to the CHIKARA Special (he now wants to find out why UltraMantis Black wanted it in the first place and why he would sell it to Dr. Cube).

MIKE QUACKENBUSH & JIGSAW vs. THE ORDER OF THE NEO-SOLAR TEMPLE (UltraMantis Black & Crossbones)- 6.75/10
Whenever they were in there together and things were relatively calm Quack would slap an armlock on UltraMantis and shout “TELL ME!” at him but UMB never squealed. Other than that this was your standard babyface in peril story. Jigsaw won clean in his first official match back.

UTLRAMANTIS BLACK & CROSSBONES BACKSTAGE- GREAT!
Our tease of great things to come- in this case, the power of the Eye of Tyr. There is no way you can watch a segment like this and not want to find out UltraMantis is forbidding Crossbones to speak of and what UltraMantis’ great and devious plan is.

CHEECH & CLOUDY vs. THE UNSTABLE (Colin Delaney & STIGMA)- 6.75/10
I would be more into Cheech & Cloudy as babyfaces if they didn’t come off as such unbearable douchebags.

LARRY SWEENEY EXPLAINS WHY HE TURNED ON CLAUDIO AT THE SEASON FINALE- it’s because he hates him so he came up with a long-term plan to gain his confidence and then betray him.

LOS ICE CREAMS vs. THE FABULOUS TWO (Larry Sweeney & Mitch Ryder)- DUD!
This was a dull combination of boring attempts at comedy and the slowest mid-80s wrestling match you can possibly think of.

EDDIE KINGSTON vs. DELIRIOUS- 6.75/10
Kingston was the mean bully heel cheater, but in his defense, Delirious was getting really annoying making those noises in the beginning. Delirious made a comeback and worked over Kingston’s neck while also trying for Shadows Over Heck multiple times but he never managed to connect. Kingston picked up the win via Backdrop Driver.

ONE FALL TO A FINISH MATCH FOR THE CAMPEONATOS DE PAJEAS: Osirian Portal(c) vs. The Colony (Fire Ant & Soldier Ant)- 8.5/10
Some AWESOME nearfalls in here.

VIN GERARD PROMO- this was two lines that would have been good if they had been part of a longer promo that managed to form a bridge between the two ideas.

LADDER MATCH FOR THE YOUNG LIONS CUP: Vin Gerard vs. “Equinox” Jimmy Olsen- 8/10
GREAT storytelling, and just plain awesome selling by Olsen.

A GREAT show to start the season for CHIKARA. We got solid wrestling and intriguing teases on the undercard while the top of the card wrapped up the major angles from last season with a pair of awesome blow-offs.
Hold #712: ARM BAR!
