BRM Reviews PWG DDT4 2013

Post by Big Red Machine » Feb 28th, '13, 09:52

PWG DDT4 2013 (1/12/2013)- Reseda, CA

DDT4 FIRST ROUND MATCH: The Young Bucks vs. The Inner-City Machine Guns (Rich Swann & Ricochet)- 7/10
Standard spotty but awesome PWG opener.

DDT4 FIRST ROUND MATCH FOR THE PWG WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: Super Smash Brothers(c) vs. The Unbreakable F’n Machines (Michael Elgin & Brian Cage)- 6.5/10
The spot with Elgin and Cage passing Stupefied back and forth during the stalling suplex was just plain awesome. A bit underwhelming for a title change, though.

DDT4 FIRST ROUND MATCH: Dojo Bros (Roderick Strong & Eddie Edwards) vs. Future Shock (Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly)- 7.75/10
Exactly the awesome hard-hitting match you would expect. I’m pretty sure that Roddy should have gotten DQed very early on for chopping Adam Cole in the dick.

DDT4 FIRST ROUND MATCH: Kevin Steen & El Generico vs. The Briscoe Brothers- 5.75/10
The finish here was absolutely BRILLIANT!

DDT4 SEMIFINAL MATCH FOR THE PWG WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: The Unbreakable F’n Machines(c) vs. Then Young Bucks- 6.75/10
Yet another great creative finish that lets the Bucks take the belts while still keeping the Machines strong.

DDT4 SEMIFINAL MATCH: Future Shock vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico- 6.5/10
I really don’t see the point of having Generico pin Cole here. Generico is leaving the company. Steen, on the other hand, has a lot of heat with Cole and we can assume that he has his champion’s rematch coming up soon anyway, so if, for whatever reason, Cole has to be the one to take the pin, why not have Steen be the one to pin him to build up to their rematch?

B-BOY vs. WILLIE MACK- 5/10
Willie took a sick looking bump on his head (I’m sure you’ve all seen the gif of it by now), but he seemed to be fine. Apparently this was No DQ’s or something because the ref decided to let a chairshot go.

KNOCKOUTS & SUBMISSIONS ONLY MATCH: Sami Calihan vs. Drake Younger- 8/10
At one point Sami hit Drake with the ringbell, then got him up on his shoulders for a Death Valley Driver, but Drake started Elbowing Sami in the head… and Sami just no-sold it and did the DVD anyway. I know this is a little thing but it really bothers me. Why have Drake under-sell the ringbell if Sami is just going to no-sell that offense anyway?
Other than that, this match was a whole bunch of sick chair spots… and one sick spot with a traffic cone that would make Steve Corino proud. I had to take some points off for the finish, though, as I really didn’t like having a referee stoppage in a match that is advertised as “Knockouts and Submissions Only.”

DDT4 TOURNAMENT FINALS MATCH FOR THE PWG WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: The Young Bucks(c) vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico- 8/10
An awesome match with some tons of awesome nearfalls, and a match which gave the fans exactly what they wanted to see: El Generico being a resilient babyface and kicking out of everything. The one problem I have with this match was the finish. Whichever Jackson brother got the pin pretty much no-sold a f*cking Package Piledriver!

AFTERMATH WITH STEEN & GENERICO- PERFECT! That hug might well be one of the most sincere moments in wrestling history.

GENERICO’S GOODBYE SPEECH- the perfect combination of touching seriousness and fun that has pretty much embodied Generico on the indies.

Overall, an awesome show from PWG, and a must-own for El Generico fans. 2013 looks just as bright for PWG as 2012 was.

Sami was clearly knocked out after the series of punches from Drake, of course the ref stopped the match. It looked pretty much like an MMA knockout finish

To me, a wrestling Knockout is a ten count, like in the match CLM and Wesna had. That's the way things have always been done in wrestling. Ref stoppages have always been reserved for moves that are constant flurries of dangerous strikes to the head, like Dragon's Elbow, or Aries or Albright's knees.
